Today i was taking apart the truck bed and getting the project going. I want to leave the vehicle drivable while im rebuilding. Anyways, i get to just looking at the truck a little closer andi notice that there seems to be a litlte rust around the window area. this freaks me out because i would have NO idea how to fix this and i dont think the sell patches of any kind. can you take a pic from a little farther back, and a little smaller resolution? i can't make heads or tails of where this is, or how much rust i am looking at.

As for what your looking at, its the left corner of the windshield. I just did a search and found a bunch of nasty pics, nothing near mine. They were all repaired so i guess im not to worried now...

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

You may find more once you clean that out. It does look like it was bonded, but you won't know until you start after it.

Mine looked free of stuff until I pulled my windshield, then I had a bunch of little holes to take care of.

Hopefully when you get into it it won't be too bad to repair. It does take time and patience if you are learning to weld (or relearning in my case).

seen alot worse, dig out as much as you can make an estimate on how bad it is, if you decide its something you can do anything with (put back what you took out) bondo, is it on both sides or just one?

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

What did you wind up doing to fix that? I have some rust on the inside top of my windsheild, where the rear view mirror mounts and about foot towards the passenger door.. I am pretty much sure that this is about the best shape cab I could find around these parts up here in North West Ohio with all the salt they put down.. I have seen way newer vehicles with more rust holes in them.. So for now until I can find a better cab and be able to get to pick it up some where more south of here.. I just wanna patch the hole.. Could a guy just use bondo in it? I alreay hit it with a wire wheel and put down some stop rust on the exposed good metal ..

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

First off do not fix right now!!! If your plan is to do body work in the future do it then. As you won't be daily driving your truck then.

Now about your cab!!!! This can be fixed. I think LMC sells a part such as this. I've also seen this fixed with the window in and out of the truck. You will have to dig that crap (all bondo out!) Bondo is not designed to cure rust issues. Now you can clearly assess the work that needs to be done. Trim the bad metal out cut narrow strips of metal and spot weld in with mig. Let things cool mig a little more let cool until your finished the weld. Use metal prep to fill and smooth things out. A touch of bondo should not need much. Zero rust both sides. ready to go to body work and your problem is solved.

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

Lmc does not carry this type of part. So we are going to do repair 101 here. When you get closer PM me with what you find.

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

My younger brother just bought a '72 LWB, that has a little spot above the windshield. This part should get him out of trouble. Good info. Thanks for the link.

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

The area you show is a typical rust area. There are two seams in the cab (one on each side) that had a seam sealer in them from the factory. It looks like someone removed the sealer and put bondo in it

This area also goes bad if the seam sealer in the roof area is removed or cracked, water gets inside the cab.

Go inside the cab, take a small screwdriver and run it along the inside of the top of the windshield rubber. If you see a lot of rust and holes, you may have a problem, if not you're all good

Your pics actually don't look bad, sand off all the bondo. There is supposed to be a seam (it's clearly visible in the pics) and there is supposed to be seam sealer in there.

Re: Found some rust around window. Suggestions?

I didn't take a pic of that specific area, but you can see that there are a lot of areas where there is seam sealer in the cabs, here's some of the areas I redid... look at the one in the top of the door frame, perpendicular to the door, that one is very similar to the one at the front of the cab...
