Before installing a new tank - make sure that bolt heads are not in contact with tank. Over time due to vibration bolt head may work its way through tank. You can use roofing paper as an insulator.
Dropping a tank is not that difficult - just make sure that old tank is empty. Wear safety glasses - there will be plenty of dirt coming down on you.
Here are couple of photos of my starboard side tank swap and replace.
