Need help asap

Having problems with removing a gas tank. I unbolted the straps in the front and disconnected the fuel sending unit. I tried to move it and it won't budge. What else holds this darn thing in. Need advice before tonight when i go back to work on the truck.

Did you loosen the clamp at the filler neck?

Re: Need help asap

I just did this

there are four small bolts on the bottom of the tank holding it down. I believe they are 1/2". Mine were covered in crud and very hard to see. They are also near impossible to get to. I think i'd kill myself if i had worked on an assembly line back in the day and had to install these four bolts all day.

Re: Need help asap

All my 63 has is the strap bolts and the filler neck clamps. I took the seat completely out, and it wasn't a bad job.
Good luck.

Re: Need help asap

I remember that my tank was stuck and I had to bump it to get it to pop out but it only had the two straps. 64 long/fleet.

Maybe you are looking at the four bolts that secure the gas tank mount to the floor ?
The two floor mounted tank mounts are bolted to the floor by four bolts and the backside of the mounts are spotwelded to the back wall of the cab . The gas tank straps go over the tank and bolt down with two long bolts that thread into the floor mount .
I removed my cab mounted tank when I put the poly tank under the bed . I went to remove the floor mounts so I could make up a utility/speaker box where the tank used to be in the cab , and found out that the gas tank mount was bolted and welded down on my '63 .
Make sense ?
Greg

that could be it, it wouldn't budge though until i undid those bolts, of course, if the mounts were moving around it would probably have been easier to move and it was full of gas and it was nighttime, and i have not been out there since as i had to close up my project for the night and do some other stuff....

i'll look at it the next time i'm out there
