Paint question for the restorers - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've been collecting parts to turn my truck into an AC truck when I get ready to do the big tear down and I was wondering what you guys are using for paint to make the inner and outer suitcases of the system look factory fresh. Some of my underdash pieces aren't quite the same color as others and the case that would go under the hood has been painted green, so I need to strip and respray it. Any suggestions or pics of stock AC systems would be appreciated.

Under the hood box is hard to match since it had fibers showing in the color.I don`t think there is a "correct" way to do the heat system and be one color.I know the inside pieces are mixed colors anyway.One piece looks o.d. green.I guess I like a satin black under the dash.

Thanks Tim. I didn't think there was anything I could do with the outer box, but I figured I'd ask. The o.d. green piece was actually the piece I thought was faded or something. I guess I'll leave that one alone and respray the other pieces in Krylon's semi flat black.

I`m going to pay more attention to that o.d. piece.I`m not sure if all mine are that way or whether all are like that.Maybe heat turned them?

I sprayed my outer box with duplicolor "vinyl dye" and it turned out pretty good. I'm not sure how it will hold up to the elements tho.

I'll get some pics when i get home.

i lightly sanded my outer ac box and coated it with several coats of satin clear. looks like new

The outer box looks like a faded grey color- I used on cast coat color on both of mine- available from NAPA as Cast Iron Grey - it allows the fibers to show and makes it look like new- hit it with some clear and it really pops.

I did something similiar on my GT-37 and it turned out pretty good as well.
