Well I was wanting to go dual exaust on the blazer, but got to thinking what about a single 3" exaust? anyone done it? happy? or should i go dual 2 1/2 exaust like I had on my shortbox with 3" flowmasters

Go with the 2 1/2 dual you will be happy and it will run better.

2 1/2" ramhorns and the same size exhaust pipes is what I'm installing now, well once I get my floorboards and frame rails painted... J.

it is stock ramhorns, and a stock motor with an rv cam, not a tireburner by no means, just want it to sound good, this id my dd and a cruiser, not looking for high performance, just a good sound, I have a pair of 3" flowmasters that I will be using.

I ran single exhaust on my '88 Blazer (3" with a Flowmaster 50 series muffler) for some very good reasons. It also sounds good without the annoying Flowmaster dual exhaust death rattle a lot of them have

It has a stock motor. The single exhaust systems do not rattle loose nearly as frequently as the dual systems do, whether you use them on the street or off-road , plus the performance gains from using duals on a stock motor is smaller than most would like to think, and virtually non-existent when comparing it to a 3" system for a stock small block.

Why would the factories "cripple" their vehicles with a single exhaust system If it is really that bad? They wouldnt.

It is more reliable, and can have similar performance with a stock motor in everyday driving conditions.

Drawbacks -- when re-doing the exhaust on an older vehicle - the y-pipe is almost never salvageable, and they take more time and effort to re-make than just "runnin duals out the back" --- duals are more profitable.

The old y-pipe is also a seriously restricted area in a truck too

You can actually gain torque w/ single exhaust, and it only restricts it if you have
insane HP. This chart that I post on here all the time will give you a data point. I
am not an expert, but I did spend 2.5 years working part time at a muffler shop

My old 87 Formula had 3" pipe from F to R, A 3" flowmaster muffler, and a 4x28 tip

I've got dual 2.25 in mine and i'm pretty satisfied with it. When I first got my truck going I ran it with open headers for a couple days and then put the exhaust on, it ran a ton better and was quicker too.
