Re: what mufflers do you have?

Hookers outflow most other mufflers, especially Flowmaster.
Yeah I used to have Flowmaster...along with everyone else, their brother, brother's best friend, brother's best friend's mom, etc. They sound good to some but for a performance muffler much better choices are out there.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

Im running 2.5 alluminized pipe 40 series flows with tailpipes exiting behind rear tires, sounds loud when you get on it, no resonances in the cab.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

I am currently running a set of dynomax welded race mufflers and dig em'.
They're loud as hell and make more power than ANY flowmasters I've ever run. However, I do miss the flow sound a little....

I have a '90 silverado with a 5.7 liter and just put a Thrush 3" in dual 2 1/2" out on it and it sounds amazing for something basically stock. I've thought of buying a set for the '68 but I don't want do lose power. But at $29 a piece I just might have to take the chance

Like mentioned before, flowmasters sound amazing but there are better performance choises out there.

Thrush turbos. They're cheap and sound excellent for the money, better than a lot of Flowmasters I've heard lately.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

The flow 40's sound very good, noticable at idle but they sound nasty (in a good way ) when you're on it. I like em a lot...

I'm happy with my Flowmasters and tail pipes out to the rear bumper.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

Currently going to use Magnaflow 2.5", rear exit at bumper.

I've had both super 40's in 3" and Magnaflow in 3" and liked both very much, I think the flows are a little louder over all.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

Is it me or did I start the Cherry Bomb trend on the board...

I have long tube headers, 3" pipe running true dual into Cherry Bomb Xtreme "race" muff & ler (inside joke) dumping out about 24" behind the cab "weed whacker" style but hidden

It's not the loud that gives you a headache, it's getting used to"normal" sound level after driving that does it

I love it, but I'm not the normal person either

Re: what mufflers do you have?

I am running Hooker Aerochambers. Didn't like the sound with tailpipes, rapped out like a glasspack. Took the tailpipes off and put turn downs on and love them.

They look pretty cool, but are very restrictive !!! even for the bike, let alone a truck

3" duals with super 44's dumped under the bed. I get lots of looks at stoplights.

Does anyone else have Ravens? I haven't heard anything about them from anyone, but they work okay for me.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

Here is a LINK to a write-up that I did several years ago. I started with with some cheap turbo mufflers under the cab w/ turndowns. It was EXTREMELY noisy inside the cab, and the mufflers weren't even flowmasters.

The setup I replaced it with was 2-1/2" pipe, 40 series flowmasters located under the bed (not the cab) with turndowns just prior to the rearend. Since I already had the Mufflers sitting around from another project, It didn't cost too much to have the pipe run.

Even though I went with a louder muffler, it was "hands-down" much less noisy inside the cab. However, it does make a bit of "racket" outside. Here is another LINK to a video where you can hear the noise level outside. Keep in mind that it is "echoing" inside the garage, but you'll get the idea.

Later,
JEG

Re: what mufflers do you have?

I am running Sanderson shorty headers into 2.5" pipe, through Flowmaster 40's exiting at the bumper with 3" tips. Here is a quick and dirty video of it at idle. It was my first attempt at a video, so it's far from perfect. I like the sound but the mufflers are mounted right under the cab (poor communication with the muffler shop) and I get a fair amount of resonance at 2000 rpm. Plan to move them under the bed in the spring.

Re: what mufflers do you have?

I think my mufflers are half under the cab, and half under the bed, which may be why its so loud in the cab. I'm planning to run some tailpipes out the back next spring. They come out before the rear wheels now, with 3 1/2" tips.

I've gotten a ton of compliments on how the truck sounds. Whenever I tell people they're $25 Thrush turbos, they tell me I'm full of sh*t. I know of a few trucks around town with Flowmasters on them, they sound pathetic compared to mine.

Just a quick comment on you guys with mufflers under the cab, be careful of the rubber fuel line from the gas tank getting cooked and springing a massive leak. Don't ask me how I know this...

Re: what mufflers do you have?

I just changed yesterday from a 3 inch Flowmaster 50 as the drone/vibration at 1200rpm was terrible. This is a long tube headers 2 into 1 system.
I didn't get the name of the new 3in muffler (shop switched it out for free so I didn't quibble) besided the metal sound diverters, it has some packing in it that absorbs the drone and still keeps a deep sound.
Don't know how long the packing will last but it is now much better.
