WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
OK guys…I am undecided if I want to sell the original GMC tailgate. You can see the pics on my LWB Take off thread in the message area. As you can see this tailgate is like it was when it left the factory. If I would decide to sell it what would be a fair asking price. Again this is not a for sell thread…I am not sure what a fair price would be or what I want to do at this time. Also if you were in this situation would you keep it for a while or sell it? Thanks in advance.

Keep it whole. I really think a tailgate band will fit over the raised letters. I could be wrong, but I think it will.

Re: WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
The band lays right over the letters. The raised part of the letters is actually flush with the rest of the tailgate and the background is recessed.Personally,I`d hate to see you drill the holes to cover it because you have a Chevy.Did you say you had a good Chevy gate?It all gets painted anyway, right? So,why worry about keeping it together?

special-K;2458796]Did you say you had a good Chevy gate? Yes...I have a very nice gate that came off a 70cst that is dent/rust free. I would think the GMC gate is worth more to keep or later sell and use my existing gate.

Re: WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
If I sell it I will go through this board & give you all a first shot. I will not go through Ebay (unless it doesn't sell) . What I might do if LIZ, Josh, and others are in agreement is try this..lets say I have an asking price of $50...then if I have six potential buyers willing to pay $50...I will put their names into a drawing and the name drawn will get first shot. I don't want this to get into a pricing battle. I got what I feel is a good deal on the LWB bed take- off so I can afford to let the gate go at a fair price. Plus this board has been good to me and it is a way I can return the favor. I have had others asking to be put in line so I want to be fair to all. At this point this is just an idea.

Re: WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
If I decide to sell then I will start a For Sale thread...then those who are interested their names will be collected and then a name drawn. The idea is to give all a fair opprtunity to buy and I don't want this gate to be sold as an investment but to be used on a truck. JMHO Again if I do this I want the blessings of LIZ, Josh and others who operate this board. I don't want to ruffle anyones feathers.

Re: WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
So far the suggested selling range is from a low of $225 to a high of $750.

Re: WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
I've got no idea what a GMC gate is worth. But just for pricing purposes, I paid $400 for a NOS Chevy gate last Christmas.

Re: WIW...71 GMC Take Off Tailgate w/Trim?
N.o.s. goes for $500-$800.I bought a new take-off GMC tailgate last year for $200.I see them at Carlisle at around $350.I think that`s the high end and $200-350 is the range.
FYI,GMC gates are reproduced in the 69-72 design...big letter, like yours.

I agree with you and your right on. It comes down to how bad someone wants a certain part. What I don't like about ebay is the prices either get way out of hand or those with limited cash does not have a chance against those who have unlimited cash. Thats why if I decide to sell it I will come up with what I feel is a fair price and if it sells good..if not I will wait and sell it down the road or maybe use it for trade.
