Anyone running a 4L60E?

So yesterday at Turkey day dinner I am talking to my future bro in law.. He has a 95 chevy work van that he blew the motor up in... He told me he just needed it gone and I could take it.. I am pretty sure it has a 4L60E in it that I would like to use it in my 67 project.. I looked around online and found some harness/computers to use to the tune of $1000.00 plus dollars... I could scab all the wiring and computers out of the van but I am sure there will be alot of extra b.s. Anyone have any expirence with this?? What path did you take??

I would be inclinded to pull the harness from the van and run a later model Vortec motor along with that tranny. It might be worth looling into.

Keep us posted since the late model trannys with the EOD would be worthwhile in any project.

Re: Anyone running a 4L60E?

I'm thinking that computerized components need to stay together. That being said, my thinking would be to stay away from an electronically-controlled transmission if there is any way.

I believe my '96 V-6 GMC has a 4L60, but I don't want it in my '69. Maybe a 700R4, but my preference is for a GearVendors over/underdrive unit. Alas, no bux to buy one.

The gains of running a computer controlled engine and tranny are significant. The Vortec motors have such a good power curve, due to their head design and the computer will give you a good fuel mileage. I am not sure about the van, but my TBI truck does 20 MPG daily. Once you push for a increase in HP, then you impact the ileage slightly, but it is still above some of the carbed motors. I have a 91 Corvette motor with a Tuned Port intake on it sitting in my garage waiting an install into a truck. The computer harness was built for it by S&P and is set up to work with a computer tranny. I also installed vortec heads on this motor and upgraded the valve rocker arms to 1.6 to 1 to get more flow.

Re: Anyone running a 4L60E?

thanks for your comments guys... I have a tune port in my 68 currently and really like it... The van has a tbi motor not a vortec in it.. If it was a vortec I might use it.. I have a big block already done that I want to use in the 67... I may just pull it, sell it and buy a 700r4...

Look for a set of vortec heads and upgrade the TPI base plate for the vortec and gain a serious performance change in the flow characteristics. Scoggin Dickey sells a complete TPI upgrade set, but it can be done cheaper, and it settles out around 350 HP. If you add the 4l60E to it, then it will give you the OD without the TV cable.
