WVU lost, kicked brake pedal, now no brakes.

was really frustrated after the WVU loss, was driving home (1/4 mile drive) stuck in traffic, stomped my brake petal in frustration...and then the petal went to the floor. smokes pouring out the hood (mostly from passenger side), no braking power unless petal is on the floor, then you get a tiny bit of braking power, not enough to really stop tho. its dark, no light under the hood, open the hood, open the reservior, theres still some fluid but i top it off, drove the rest of the way home without brakes in 4 lo and 1st gear. (had to stop by hitting a sign).

went out there a minute ago and looked under the hood, the front part (large part) of the reservior is almost dry, and theres still a little bit of brake fluid residue on the passenger side manifold and frame. couldnt find a ruptured line anywhere, not near the reservior, not on any of the lines i could reach. where the rubber brake line goes from the caliper to the frame is fine, from the frame to where i lose it behind the motor mount it feels ok, and everything i can see from under the hood feels ok. there is a tube going to the top of my front diff that is broken off right on top of the diff. could this be the problem? its too low to spray on the manifold to cause the smoke, and im not sure if this is just a vent tube for the diff.

anyone know what could be wrong? ive had problems losing brake fluid since ive had it, and i think this is because the cap on the reservior does not have a tight seal. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: WVU lost, kicked brake petal, now no brakes.

top it off with brake fluid and have a friend watch it as you pump the pedal, paying particular attention to the proportioning valve ---- a new master cylinder probably wouldnt hurt either

worst case scenario - re-plumbing the brake system can be an all day job

yeah have someon look while you pump or visa versa do you have the plastic resivoir on the master cylinder? it could be a leak there

I've always wondered what his name meant too, just never got around to asking!

On a more serious note, it sounds like you blew out the seal in the master cylinder, so now instead of pushing the fluid into the brakes, it's all just squeezing by the broken seal. If their suggestions don't work, a new master cylinder is only like 20 bucks new at autozone or something, so give it a try. If you need help on how to bleed it when you're putting it on, let me know.

The game sucked bad enough. Sounds like you made the night worse by blowing a brake line somewhere. Good luck with the truck. Wish I could get some of that good ole WV white Xmas action down here.

Let's go.........Mountaineers!

Re: WVU lost, kicked brake pedal, now no brakes.

hey hey hey...we bring my truck into the PIT every home game and we hadnt lost at home up until this game (the PIT is a parkinglot a block away from the stadium where 50 trucks each with a keg in the bed all park and all the students come and get drunk). we should be playing ohio state for the championship but instead were playing oklahoma in the fiesta bowl. oh well. if it doesnt rain and snow this weekend im gonna get out there and get this truck fixed cuz if i dont, its gonna be a painful ride home driving stick in the camaro with a broken left foot!

heres a pic from before we left for the PIT, of me and my friends truck (yes its a ford)
