Belt squeak when cold?

God Almighty, belts can cause insanity. It seems my truck makes some squeaking noises, but I noticed after driving 10-15-20 miles and come home, it seems to quiet out. This is just the cold belts causing some squeaks on the alternator pulley or something, right? Because it seems to go away when the belts warm up...knock on wood.

I'm just trying to troubleshoot the last things to cause paranoia (and possibly insanity) on a long road trip.

Re: Belt squeak when cold?

Remove the belt(s) and free spin all pulleys including the water pump, Could be a dry/bad bearing fixing to fail. They will quit making noise after being warmed up as well. If it is the belt(s) re-tightening after checking bearings mite solve the problem.

The water pump is one of my fears as well. I guess I'll have to look into this.
