Auto Hump To Manual

Does Anybody Know If The Automatic Humps Bolt In Like The Manual Humps In 4x4s. Looking At Buying A Truck With An Automatic And Was Wandering If They Would Interchange. Would Rather Not Have To Hack The Floor.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

The bolt in humps have the same bolt pattern so they will interchange. If your new project has a bolt in hump than it is a simple swap out.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

Yeah, definately don`t hack it.You can either find what you need or find a trade.Figure alot of guys swap from manual to auto and would be glad to trade even up,I`d think.I don`t think one is worth more than the other.

I WOULD THINK ABOUT A TRADE, IF SOMEONE HAD AN AC CAB THAT IS AS CLEAN AS THIS ONE. PART OF THE REASON FOR BUYING THIS TRUCK IS TO SAVE ME TIME ON BODY WORK. ALSO BEING A WELDER WOULD MAKE SWAPPING OUT HUMPS A LITTLE EASIER. THANKS FOR INPUT, DAREN

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

I am uneducated with the different humps for auto and manuals, but if one is a bolt in and the other is a welded in/molded in with the floor, can't you use the the bolt in version as a template and cut out the welded/molded hump? Just wondering.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

Yes you can,and I have done it.It's very easy.If the truck was a clean truck and didn't need body work,I'd go for cutting it out and use it.It will be hard to find another cab in that condition in most cases so use what you can. That's my thought. Not all automatics had the low hump floor, big blocks with autos had them, trucks with 4spds had them,2wd GMC V6s w/ autos (Thanks Andy),and 4wds auto or manual had high hump floors.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

that is 100% correct. The only type of truck to add to that list would be a 2 wheel drive V-6/automatic GMC truck.

I would just cut it out and bolt on the high hump.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

It's A 4 Wheel Drive, I've Not Seen It In Person Yet, So It May Already Have The High Hump. I've Only Seen Pics. Thanks Daren

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

I just came in from outside to take a break from working on a "new" cab for my 69........it's 85 degrees in S. Fl. and about 85% humidity!!!!

I just got finished cutting out the low hump so I can use my old high hump. It was simple, the grooves are already there, just follow them with a resiprocating saw, it took about 15min. Once it's cut out it will be identical to the old cabs floor. You can even take the fastener strips off the bottom of the old floor and tack them to the new floor to hold down the high hump.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

Hey 1969k10stepside, I Take It That Cab Was Not On A 4 Wheel Drive Truck, Since You Had To Cut It Out. OH AND ROB, IT MUST BE NICE, IT'S PROBABLY IN THE LOW 30S HERE.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

Correct,The original cab on my short K10 was rusted out along the windshield. The cab pictured was an a/c cab I got for free.It was out of a 2wd auto tranny truck so I had to cut the floor out.A low hump cab can go on a 4wd (Atleast with an auto) and the tranny/t-case not hit the floor. You would just need a hole for the shifter but I wanted it to look right so I cut it out and used the high hump.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

Not all BB had high humps, I've had 2 that I've parted that were low humps. All the rest of the BB's I've parted have had high humps. And I got a V6 with a Automaitc here right now with a low hump, it has a turbo 400 in it too. Sometimes the GM factory workers didn't put them together right.

Re: Auto Hump To Manual

I've only seen 2 of the V6 1/2 ton trucks, and they both had high humps in them... I've seen i think 3 automatic v 6 3/4 tons, and they had low humps.
It never made much sence to me, and I was never able to get any info on that here since 1/2 tons were fairly uncommon with the V6.
The big block trucks you found with low humps, were they by chance 3 speed manuals? I've seen a few on line (never in person) like that with low humps
