Pictures or Suggestions of Bucket Seats?

Hi, I am new here and I am in the process of building a 68 Chevy stepside with a 96 model bed, fuel injected 350, balanced and blueprinted, 700R4 trans with Corvette valve body, 373 Posi. Will post some pics when I figure out how to.
I am considering a set of late model bucket seats out of a 2000 Suburban or maybe from a late model Silverado. Has anyone here used these seats and were there a lot of modification to get them mounted? Does anyone have any pics of these seats installed or pics or suggestions of other seats?
The reason I want to use bucket seats is I am having a custom console built after I decide on the seats.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or pics!

Re: Pictures or Suggestions of Bucket Seats?

Take a look at my build link below for the install of silverado seats. It's really easy, but you need (or should) reinforce the under side of the cab due to the mounting and the seat belts being intergrated to the seats.

BTW, welcome to the board! There is wealth of information here.

Re: Pictures or Suggestions of Bucket Seats?

First, Welcome Renegade to the board and congrats on your 68 refurb!

I just picked up a pair of 2003 Silverado seats in mid December for my 69 Fleet so we're in parallel rehabs it appears.

Thanks Whatnow123 for the pics of your rebuild. When the seats are leaned back enough to be comfortable, is there any lack of foot room or belly to steering wheel room? Also, how high did you mount them? Any chance of getting a few shots of the mounting brackets?

Bracket mounts are the next job facing me and would likely be helpful for Renegade as well. Thanks

Thanks,

How about a few pictures, particularly a closeup or two of how you mounted them?

Thanks

Re: Pictures or Suggestions of Bucket Seats?

How far up do you have your seats mounted. Mine sat too far forward with the gas tank in.

Re: Pictures or Suggestions of Bucket Seats?

Here are mine out of a 1990 Ford Torus paid $50 and had them redone in leather very comfortable I mounted them on the stock frame from the bench set. It left enough room under the seats for the Amp and two 8 inch Subs in boxes

As far as fit and the angle of the back VS leg room is okay, but there is a relationship between angle and leg room, one takes from the other and I probably would consider something different if this was going to be driven a lot. They are also little thicker and higher than the stock seats due to the seat belt and cushions, over 6'1" and or bigger belly's would probably prefer a stock/thinner seat set up for more room. I also recommend compressing the steering column down (FAQ Thread) as that made it really comfortable for the steering wheel as well.

I used the bracket mounting that came with the seats to mount it to the floor of the cab. I modified the underside of the cab with some thick angle iron and welded it in under the cab to reinforce the floor as I didn't want to go sailing through the air with the seat attached incase of an accident. I already undercoated the cab so any photos really wouldn't show what I did. Hope this helps.
