1962 Chevy

A friend of mine has a '62 Chevy pickup that she bought from her mother. It's got 106K miles on it; motor in original condition; it still runs good and currently lives indoors. Unfortunately, these scanned snapshots don't show much. She lives on the Arkansas-Missouri border about three hours from me or I'd take some better pictures. Does anyone know a ballpark price for something like this or how I might find out?

That's a nice, straight 62 there! Is that original/unrestored?? Any more info on it?

Re: 1962 Chevy

This truck has only been driven by my friend and her mother. It has always been garaged though for part of its life it's tail-end hung out in the rain and she had the wooden bed replaced by the Chevy dealer in Kansas City. Also, my friend's mother was a little heavy and the driver's side of the seat sinks down a bit. There are no hubcaps in the picture but she has three of the originals.

Thanks for your comment. That's all I know right now.

Re: 1962 Chevy

And finally to answer your question: this is the original except for the new bed.

Re: 1962 Chevy

So her mom is the original owner? That's cool. It should have a decent value. I'm sure these guys here who know more about values will give their opinion on that. I think it's an awesome truck! I'm diggin it!!

Niiiiccceee. I always get a kick out of old truck finds how they have the bias ply mud grip tires on the back. Pretty much all my granddad ran on his trucks.

Re: 1962 Chevy

As idea of what they are worth, I gave $2700 for an all original '62 LWB, custom cab, 283, cast iron 'glide, two owner pickup. The bed floor had been changed to 1/8" tread plate. Bad paint job and some body work.

Not saying it was a good buy or bad buy, just FYI.

BTW, nice truck.

Re: 1962 Chevy

Couple of more things to consider on 60-62 trucks, especially if you are thinking of modiying it.

Suspension is different from '63 forward. So the '62 and before is more expensive for all front end parts. Lower ball joints run form 99.00 to 250.00 each, depending where you buy them. Moog no longer makes them. Uppers are still available from Moog.

Torsion bar suspension is nice and smooth, but can't be modified.

Frames are similar in the rear, but the '62 and earlier is wider (42") than the '63 and later trucks (36") causing difficulties using wider tires.
