Inner/outer Tie rods question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey Guys just got all new inner and outer tie rods. Only problem is they all look to be the same. Is there any difference between the inner and outer tie rods on a 69 c10 1/2 ton? Can you use a outer tie rod as a inner tie rod? or did they screw up my order......thanks ... rick

The threads are different. I believe the inners are RH thread, and the outers are LH thread. Not sure about any obvious physical appearance differences.

The outters are the short ones and are have right hand threads, the inners are about 4 inchs or so longer and have left handed threads. I just repalced mine so its fresh in my head

Nope, it's not a stupid question. From what I've found out about this site is that all questions are legit. Just have to find the person or persons that knows or remembers the answer. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to jog someones memory also, so you did the right thing.

I agree with Kenm. Inners are longer than outers. If they look the same, something is wrong.

Inner is moog part number es403l
outer is moog part number es415rl
sleeve is moog part number es2004s

do you know how to set the toe close to get it to the alignment shop?

Count the number of turns it takes to get the old tie rods out, then put the new ones back in the same number of turns. That should get it back as close as possible to get the truck to the alignment shop. Ive got my drivers side tie rods sitting in the truck ATM just waiting for a break in the weather to get them put on (or at least until my friend gets back so I can use his garage and AIR tools
