Is there anyone on this site that rebuilds Quadrajet 4 barrel carbs?

I've rebuilt a few but it's been about 10 years since the last one. There pretty simple.

I've done a few...found the instructions pretty easy and basic. Make sure you have lots of clean table space (no kids, pets or wives around the area) and take your time. There is some excellent resources on the net as well as in the rebuild kit.

I have rebuilt Quadrajets and had them rebuilt...I guess one of the questions is how many miles on you Quadrajet and why does it need a rebuild. If it is fairly low mileage then the throttle shafts should be ok. If it is a high mileage carb...the throttle shafts are probably worn and no matter how good you rebuild it as far as gaskets/getting everything back in the right place...Worn throttle shafts = vacuum leaks that you will chase forever.

Just another thought is the carbs are made out of pot metal and plated when new to protect the pot metal and eliminate any leaks in the pot metal. As these carbs age...the plating will were off. When this happens...you will chase all kinds of problems.

He just rebuilt my Quadrajet off of my 75 Pontiac Grand Am 400 and it works like new...Not to mention the plating makes this carb look show quality. He is going to get my Quadrajet off of my 72 BB pretty quick and do the same thing. Cost is between $300.00 and $400.00...and well worth it. Quadrajets are the most underated carbs out there in my opinion.

While were on Quads, I need to lean mine out a little, getting a black build up on the exhaust tips. Which needle screws do I turn and how far. Or basic start all the way in and how many turns out? Location and which ones. Or at least years ago I thought if the exhaust was turning your tips black it was to rich, is that true. Carb works fine other than that.

Those screws only affect idle. You need to adjust the rods and/or jets to change off-idle mixture.

If memory serves, the Q-Jets don't have jets, only metering rods.
That's what makes them the most misunderstood & underrated carburetors.

Well mine has been excellent, starts right up, idles when it's very cold here in Idaho, like now! Touch the peddle it kicks down to a slower idle, no sputters or coughs, just think I"m running rich.

I just sent mine out last week to get rebuilt. Cliff Ruggles is where I sent it, he has written books on the Quadrajet. They are going to go through it completly, Bushings and everything new. Quoted price was around $370-$400.00. He tunes it according to what engine it will be going on.

Sent mine to Sean Murphy Induction in CA. It made a huge difference in my roller cammed 462BB. Almost 3 week turnaround, but got my carb back & only $250.

I'm gonna rebuild mine within the next month. I have Cliff's book, a rebuild kit, and new throttle shaft bushings. Based on a conversation with the guy who sold me the rebuild kit (The Carburetor Shop, Eldon MO, mentioned in the book), it should be pretty straight forward. Follow the instructions, take your time, take good notes.

He did mention that the throttle shaft bushings should be done by a pro. Luckily I live near Carburetor Connection. They said they can do them. They also mentioned that they'll rebuild the Quadrajet for 245. Nice to know that I have a backup in case I run into problems.

I've done motorcycle carbs in the past, so I'm pretty confident this will go ok. Let's hope so

you can buy remanufactured q-jets at advanced and auto zone for $150. They work great right out of the box.

I just recently rebuilt mine. The kit was $25 or so from Autozone. First time I've done any carb work - it wasn't bad at all. Only about 2 hours worth of work.

Lot's to think about!!! I'm not sure how old mine is, well miage wise or if was rebuilt in the past. Not sure. I suppose they will ask for a core and at this point it seems to work or maybe I just don't know how a new or rebuilt one works. I know I only get about 10mpg driving it like my age @ 55, LOL. Other types? What's the smallest, efficient for a total stock 350? What CFM is the Quad? Would like a 500 CFM work. Daily driver here just around town no highway long distants.

Nearly all Qjets are 750CFM, but they are regulated by vacuum to what is needed. I would just rebuild the one you have. You can get gaskets from the carb shop in Garden City. You should be able to do better than 10MPG even with winter gas.

I used SMI as well and was not that impressed. I am having a few issues.

I'm definitely not going to give it a try. I've tryed on small motors, (lawnmowers, weedeaters, ect) and have failed terribly. Always ended up sending them off or throwing them away. I will either send it off to get rebuilt or buy a remanufactored. Thanks for the reply. I would love to give the work to a board member, so if you are interested please pm me. Randy

Oh yeah, the truck is my GMC 4x4 with about 35,000 miles. Not sure if it's been rebuilt before but probably not.
