65 tire size?

Hey all
65 short stepper, it has the factory wheels and 235/75/15 tires on it. I was wondering what the factory tire size was, my spare will only fit under the bed if you let all the air out which kinda defeats the purpose lol I need a skinner tire but not much on the metric sizes.

Per the 1966 Silver Book, the factory standard wheel size on the 10 Series trucks is 15" x 5.5" bead-to-bead. The optional sizes are 15" x 5.0" and 15" x 5.25". The factory standard size tubeless tire on the 10 Series trucks is 7.75-15. The factory optional size tubeless tire on the 10 Series trucks is 8.15-15, 6.00-16, 6.5-16 or 7-16.5.

I believe that the original tires were about 27" tall. Converting at 7.70-15 to metric sizing, that would work out to about a P195/80R-15 tire.

7.70" times 25.4mm/inch = 195.58mm.

My 65 C10 came with 7.75-15 2-ply tires, according to the original invoice.

That is 7.75 inches section width.

In a P-metric tire today that would be about equivalent to a P205.

A P205/75R15 on a 7-7-1/2 inch rim should be pretty close.

I believe the OEM tires were designated as G78-15 or H78-15 (one was teh standard, the other the optional).

I forget now which one the tire shop used, but for me they came up with P215-75-15 as the alleged closest match.

My 1965 owners manual for series 10-30 doesn't list any alpha numeric sizes. It does list an 8.15-15 as the largest size passenger car type tire, one size above the 7.75. That would be very close to a 215-75R15. By the way the 78 in the G78-15 indicates the aspect ratio, a little taller than a 75.
