Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Would an inline 6 do alright in a 64 Sub. I don't care about going fast I just don't want to get ran over.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
My '66 Burb runs a 292. Peppy off the line, but no top-end with my 411 gears.
Definitely keeping mine though. I've been a six-cyclinder fan since I drove a '50 Chevy hay-truck as an early teen. I loved dropping the hammer and listening to that big six gear-drive wind up. Pissed off the farmer I worked for something fierce, but hey, I was only 13. I'm gonna leave mine pretty stock. It's only got 34,000 on it, though it sat for almost 20 years. Aside from a few leaks, and a definite need of new paint, and peripherials, it runs great. For now, I'll just seal it up, and do a header and something carb-related--maybe dual Rochester B's, or a two-barrel. Possibly the best running worst looking engine I've ever had! Check it out: |

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Rafael,
Summit, Jegs, any of the places that you can buy parts for these will sell the split header. The intake you'll have to search the web for Offenhauser and there are a number of places for them as well. Right now I can't think of any off the top of my head. Now if your looking for performance stuff, that is a little harder to come by. Check out Patricks, Just google "Patrick's" it should be the first one on the search. He has alot of stuff for the older inline stuff. Remember the Sixes were used in novas and other autos. So there are a variety of places to find parts/dress up items for them. I also know that LMC sells components for the old sixes. I bought my carbs and intake off Evil bay, the headers were Jegs, The alunimum cover and side plate were from Patricks mentioned above. Hope this helps. Understand that these trucks are heavy, there are no garentees that your milage is going to be better than a small V8. These trucks were built to run 50-55 highway speed. Start trying to twist 65-70 out of them there going to drink the gas. It's pretty much a wash. Definately different, but just about even money for gas consumption. Regards! |

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
There are many days that I wish I had stayed with my 250 inliner in my truck, but next vehicle will be an inline 6. Love the engines.

The Offenhauser intake, is shaped like the GM cast iron intake, but cast in aluminum. So the Offy is compatible with the stock intake. Most Inliners, when upgrading, go whole hog and ditch the cast iron exhaust.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Hope this helps some. As you can see, the air cleaner and throttle linkage is a little close to the booster but not causing any problems.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
I wish I had a pic of the 235 in "Honest Charley's" '50 AD "WD-50"
That was the best looking period inline I have seen. It had a Wayne V/C and Lifter cover. a Wayne 2x2 with 2 glass bowl Holley's. on those had old spark arrestors. (IIRC) This is the truck, I believe it went to califor-ni-aye.
