any one got pics of the wood stained black. i seen it done about a year a go in classic trucks magazine but i can find that issue. i whould like to do it since my truck is black/silver i think it would look good with ss trim strips. what do yall think

Southern yellow pine painted with a mix of kreosote/black paint, was the factory application on the wood in the '60-'66 Chevy 10 & 20 series trucks, per the manufacturer's literature. Here is an unmolested survivor, with the original wood bed and faded finish and the same original wood and wear strips in the bed refinished.

He is a picture of a friend's '66 Chevy C20. This is ebony stain on yellow pine. I think it turned out very nice. This truck is in the Gallery of:

replaced the original wood in the bed of my 64 C10 this past summer with new oak. I painted it with one coat of Sherwin Williams oil-based primer and two coats of Sherwin Williams black semi-gloss exterior house paint. The natural woodgrain of the oak shows through nicely, although it's a bit hard to see in this photo. The key to a nice finish with this paint is letting it dry thoroughly between coats. I decided to go with exterior house paint after reviewing a link someone posted here (Mar-K maybe?) that tested durability of various finishes when exposed to the elements. My truck sits outside most of the time, so durability was my highest priority. Maybe I can get this photo link to work...
