What color is your steering column?

I am preparing to repaint my interior with the same tan color you see on the dash. I am thinking of painting the steering column as well and getting a different steering wheel. Maybe one from an early 90's chevy truck if I can find one in a color besides black.

My column is out of a 79 Chevy truck. Does anyone know if I can replace the collar with one that is smooth? My key is in the dash and the shifter is on the floor so I want to get rid of the hole and the nub on the column.

Is your column black, the same color as the dash or a contrasting color?

Re: What color is your steering column?

The factory color of the steering column, mast jacket and steering wheel is the same factory color used on the dash.

Will a factory style steering wheel fit back on that column? Nothing like a big ol factory steering wheel.

I am not sure what year, make or model vehicle your steering column came from, however, most likely you could retrofit a factory '60-'66 Chevy truck steering wheel. I may look a little odd, due to the larger diameter mast jacket, versus the small diameter factory column. Get a factory steering wheel and give it a go.

........if you have a metal collar it could be welde smooth. Perhaps epoxy or fiberglass if its plastic. Im also considering running a stock steering wheel on my pick-up. After using Grant wheels it looks like you would have to notch your door panel to get it to fit!!!!!!!!

Well, the stock wheel is 17" diameter, the grant is 13.5. I am looking to get a stock wheel from an early 90's truck, which would be 15". That is the common diameter on most modern cars with power steering.
