ok imworking on a 57 truck and think about switching to a k-series blazer rear on the account my stock rear is either 390 or 410's, i was wandering if the stock backing plates, brakes, and drun would work onthe blazer rear. or would I just be better off running an od trans

The K5 series blazer rear end is wider than the rear in your 57 truck. If I recall correctly it will be about 3 inches wider overall so, figure on the possibility of different rear wheels if you decide to go that route.

Here's another angle for you to consider - try to find a rear end out of a 1964 to 1970 C10 truck. They are the same overall width as the rear in your 1957, have six lug axles, have self adjusting brakes and are commonly available with rear gear ratios of 3.07, 3.42, and 3.73.

The only modification required will be that a pair of leaf spring perches will need to be welded to the newer axle if you use one out of a trailing arm truck (you might get lucky and find one out of a GMC that was originally set up for leaf springs, which might then be a direct bolt in).

cool that sounds like a plan i already have a set of perches here for a rear so no big deal there, 307 or 342's would work great then no need for another trans
