Chrome paint......

Has anyone out there on the board tried the relatively new chrome paint? I'm not talking about the rattle can stuff. This is put on like any other paint and it is pretty pricey. I saw some of this on last year's Powertour and it was incredible. My reason for asking is to see if this will work on my grille shell. The guy I bought the truck from had tried to clean his new griile with some sort of chemical that completely etched the finish. I got after it with some Mothers and a powerball but there is no shining this thing up. The grille is perfect except for the dull finish. I'm sure it can be applied (with the proper prep work) on my shell but I thought I'd see if anyone has tried it or has other ideas. The attached photo doesnt show much but I think you can see the lack of shine..........Thanks.

I know there's a new anodizing called "Bright Coat". That's what I'll be getting done to mine later on.

Check out this thread.

I think some of the images have been changed since that link was first posted, but I have seen entire cars painted with this stuff. Looks pretty wicked and is the ultimate Bling Bling!

Re: Chrome paint......

www.sprayonchrome.com There are several companies that sell it but there is a video at this link where they show several pieces being painted. I probably need to check with some local shops to see if it is too specialized.

Re: Chrome paint......

Re: Chrome paint......

there is no such thing as a piece of aluminum that can't be polished ... granted some are easier than others. start with 280 grit ... then go to 320 ... then 400... then 600. After the 600 grit, you should be able to polish with something like Mother's.

Because it generally costs more than a new grill to have them chromed or professionally polished.

Re: Chrome paint......

i have not had much luck with it, on large surfaces but for small airbrush or small items it works like a champ. first one to market was Motochrome, then it was alsa then HOK came along with kosmic chrome, the problem most painters have with it is they get impatient, it it worse than spraying kandy. if you have never sprayed an entire car with candy good luck spraying a whole car with chrome paint.
coverage is horrible and takes multiple coats to achieve end results, if you spray too much it just looks gray...........i sprayed some valve covers and exhaust tips on a bike. with it then kandied over it for a christmas ornament effect and it looked killer.
