I have a good gas tank for my 69 truck but it needs some cleanup on the outside. It's been empty and out of the truck for about 4 years. Can I use a grinder bursh on it or will it still blow up on me? Any suggestions?

I cleaned mine with Scotchbrite and Simple Green, wiped it down with a solvent cleaner and sprayed it with Eastwood's gas tank paint. It turned out pretty nice. I don't believe I would use a wire brush. The finish on the tank is a soft coating and a wire brush would gouge the finish.

I took my tank to a local radiator shop and had them clean it out, because I could hear stuff rattling around in it. Don't forget to replace the sender unit, the filter is probably gone.
