700r4 to a 205
whats involved? is a 208 any good? this is not a serious off rd truck but driver/ tow rig 450ft/lb 406sb

You need a shorter output shaft for the trans, and move the engine ahead two inches, or the transfercase back two inches. I got mine from bowtie overdrive. I can't remember for shure, but I think it was $1700 built to handle the power with th output shaft.

Advanced Adaptors has the adaptor for the 700R to the NP205. I would keep the 205.

hi Jim. the 700/205 combo is a neat set up. the 700's 3.06 first gear helps the 205's anemic 1.94 low range. first off, what 205 input spline count and adapter bolt pattern do you have? which year tcase will determine which route is most effective for your swap. however, if i may say, if you are not roughing this rig up then the 208 that comes with the 700 will handle your small block and towing duties just fine, but it doesn't have the cool factor as the 700/205 combo. -steve

you could use a 2" spacer if you don't want to go through the tranny. i'm using the spacer set up on mine...but I bought my 700 already built, then added the 203 adaptor, spacer, then the NP203 to doubler
 But judging by your original post, I'd stay with the 208...just add a clocking ring and SYE kit.

i would rather keep my 205. i looked on advance adapter's web sight and seen there kit. is this all i need? anybody used it? they said somthing in the instructions about pan mods. is this just a matter of cutting off a corner and fabing up a new corner for the pan? what about drive shaft lengths? i think i read somthing once about using a spacer instead of a shaft, witch is more cost efective?

spacer's cheaper. the thing that sucks about the AA output shaft is that you gotta tear the tranny down to bare housing

i do plan on tearing the tranny down for a rebuild/upgrade. one of the main reasons for doing this is the education on auto trannys. does anyone know if the th350 output shaft can be installed in the 700r?
