Oil on Dampner
I have a newly rebuilt 250 I6 and have almost 600 mi on it. I was under the hood the other day and noticed oil covering most of the dampner. It looks to be on the front side only. My guess is it is coming down the crankshaft past the keyway. Should I have put some permatex gasket maker in there before assembly? It is newly painted and rebuilt and I really want to try and keep it clean as long as possible. It's not a show truck by any means, but just wanting to try and keep things clean.
Any ideas on this? ------------------ 1971 Chevy 1/2t, 350 -- SOLD 1998 Yamaha V-Star 650 1970 Chevy 3/4t, I6(freshly rebuilt), 4 speed Keokuk,IA http://communities.msn.com/SchweringFamily/shoebox.msnw MSN Messenger = boilrman Find a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.

You could have oil wicking down the keyway....I would pull the balancer bolt,& clean everything with brake cleaner, then use a little RTV& tork it back up.....69 longhorn.

You could also try same oil seal fattener. What it dose is it fattens the all your oil seals to help stop leaks. If it's not a big leak then this should work. I would first try doing what the others members mentioned first!
