First.... please note... all but the very first photo were taken on my craptastic LG phone that gets dropped, kicked, tossed, and even stepped on, just about every day. Some of the photos are outstanding considering that... but some of them are still worse than they should be... so sorry bout that.

So when I got the burb, I picked up a set of rims... the more and more I looked at them, the less i liked them.

Some cat here in town was geekin over them big time, i told him to get me a set of decent 5 lug 8 inch wide truck rallys and I'll trade.
The next day, there he was. He even went to the junk yard and got some plastic chrome later model center caps (great shape) and some trim rings to boot (3 out of 4 in great shape).
So since I got tires last week, I figured I'd do up the wheels this weekend.
First.. the tires;
Walked into Jegs with $400, came out with 4 tires and enough for a real cheap date. 2 275/60s for the rear, and 2 245/60s for the front.
They are sittin in my storage unit right now, I'll be getting them mounted this week maybe.

Here's the wheels before messin with them... well, one of them anyways;

The lips were rusted pretty bad, so i chiseled the layers of rust off, and took a grinder to the whole lip. Then i knocked off the large rust spots with the grinder too... ended up looking like this;

Then, i went to sand blast them. Well, something is wrong with the blast cabinet we have at work, becouse after 30 min, all i had was a sore neck and back, and a wheet that was still silver... just not as glossy.
Bummer.
I fired up the boil out tank and tossed them in there. (the dark one had been there for an hr as I got the rust off the silver one that is just going in)

The white things to the left are rad tanks... this is overr in the rad shop part of the shop I wirk in.
So after a couple hrs, they were still looking just like the dark one above... so I left the boil out on all night, and came back saturday morning a tad early for work. I pulled the rims out, and blasted the chemicals off with the steam cleaner, and was rewarded with this;

So I made a call to NAPA, and my guy told me he'd send me some paint... he and I usually think alike, so he knew exactly what it was I was looking for. He flat out told me on the phone, don't look at the cap, they put some gay ass chrome lid on these. The rest I got at advance auto. The silver paint I got for $7 a can (lists at $9.64) and the clear and primer were both about $5 a can. (got 2 cans of each, never popped the lid off the 2nd paint can)

The dew was less than $2 for the record.
Well, since the temp was above 55 today... I figured I may as well get it done now. Grabbed the 5 gallon can, plopped the wheels down, primed them front and back;

Painted the fronts;

Then cleared the whole rim.
no photo avalible... memory card full
Rinse, repeat 3 more times.
The silver is a tad darker than I wanted... but, in all reality, I think they look fine. I briefly considered going gloss laquor black... but was afraid they'd look like plain steel wheels... too much of an understatement.
This week.... valve stems and rubber mounting!

I'm jealous that you can "walk in" to Jegs!

The closest I get to something like that is a 2 hour drive into Reno where there is a Summit......I like Jegs better.

Those look Great!! Argent silver is a little darker than what I use which is Dull aluminum but these still look great. You will like the later model center caps and can use them with a conversion lug nut if you still want to use the black screw on caps.......if its the ones Im thinking of.

I don't know if they make them aplication specific, but I'm sure there's an aftermarket trim ring that'll go on and work.

Yeah, but I have to drive through a huge pot hole filled with salt water that helps speed along the rust holes in the bottom of the longhorn.

Yep, that's what i have. I won't buy converson nuts, nor the gay little black lugnut covers.... I have an idea that I need to look at on there... then if I don't like what I see it'll be back on here to find out other ideas. I KNOW there is a way to put them on without the covers.

I think they look good a bit darker than original.Lookin`good.Some cool trim rings are the old-style narrow stainless ones in smooth or stepped (ribbed).I think Wheel Vintiques produces them.
It`s great that someone had the idea to make metric to SAE lugs.I wish the next guy would come along and make the hold-on plastic lugs in chrome.Prolly keep moretire guys from stripping those,too.

Great job on the wheels. I wish I had a boil tank. For me it is angle grinder sand paper and simple green.

where could i get some of those conversion lug nuts??

"gay" covers huh? LOL.

I have looked myself and will like to see what you come up with as the holes in the cap are huge and swallow a normal lugnut. They do make chrome lug covers too instead of the black,just another option.

Most wheel and tire stores will have the conversion lugnuts for use with standard thread trucks. I did mine a harder way but it was free so I didnt care too much.........I took metric lugs and converted my rear axles/drums and front rotors.

Believe it or not, there are actually 3 retail stores here in Columbus. The main warehouse used to be behind one of them. It has moved about 30 miles north.
I have been "walking in" since the late 70s, back when there was only one store.

The really crazy thing is that Summit is based in Ohio too.

I have an idea on the caps... and I'll be postin pics if I get it to work. And yeah, I think those plastic caps are one of the gayest things GM has done in years... even more so than the aztec.
