Glove box hinge repair?

I am looking to an alternative glove box hinge repair for my 75 C10.

So far I have not been able to find a 6” long piano hinge to replace the broken plastic hinge.

If you are talking about just any old hinge, I could send you one of the hinges we use at work?
They are steel (maybe stainless but I doubt it) and 6" long.

I would send one to you if you thought it might work?

Re: Glove box hinge repair?

Why not get a new glove box liner from a local wrecking yard? That will solve your problem...the "GM" way.

Woops that was supposed to say 16” long piano hinge.

I can not believe Chevy would make such a cheap glove box hinge.

The way the mounting holes are at different distances from the hinge point makes it harder to find a replacement metal hinge. Guess I will have to look at the salvage yard.

Re: Glove box hinge repair?

Yeah it's a crappy design but I've always found good ones at the junk yard.

Re: Glove box hinge repair?

junkyard is going to be about the cheapest and easiest fix! i think i have a couple glove boxes on hand just in case... but seeing as how i am retiring the '84 4X4 this spring i highly doubt i will be needing them anymore since the 2wd shortbox is in "like new" shape

Re: Glove box hinge repair?

Shoot I just realized that the factory build sticker is in the glove box.

Oh well off to look for more brass hinges or black plastic.
