What did you get done? 03/16

I worked this weekend so I didn't get anything done around the house. I washed my daily drivers, but there is so much pine pollen, they were yellow before I could get them dry...

NOTHING!

Had wedding to photo yesterday. Had to work today!

Did get the 454 put together this past week though. Need to adjust valves still and get it ready to install next weekend.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

Wish it was warm enough here for pollen....

I sanded a LOT on my 79. Fitted up my intake on the 5.3. Sold some parts to a fellow board member. Got a cheap bench grinder at Menards ( store closing out everything 40% off ) Rotated the tires on the Tahoe, and painted the frame satin black on it. And its 8:40 now, Im sipping a COLD Busch Light

OH and I took some picture for this show and tell thread

Removed the rear bumper, reciever hitch and all the bed bolts from my '86 swb. Doesn't sound like much,... but I used a grinder and cut off wheel for most of it. Didn't even blow up anything considering my gas tanks leak.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

got the window tint removed and painted the wheels on my 85, I found a pretty nice 86 for sale cheap so I'm thinking of selling. Still need to remove the extra leaves the PO added to the front leaf packs. I think it looks much better now.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

Adjusted the Detent cable, changed plugs and wires, put in a new head unit, cleaned up the dash and lubed the pass side locking mech so it would operate better.

Just lil stuff till I order the Drop for it.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

green pollen eh? i wish we were getting that all we got today was light snow flurries but i digress
this week i finally got my truck out of the trans shop and she shifts beautifully . While it was there they changed the trans mount and the u joints so thats two less things to do
i drove it home and parked it and have been running like a chicken without a head all week. Wife also had the flu
Only thing that was even remotely related to the truck was i ordered some parts from Jeff here and other stuff on ebay.
I may have also located a tailgate for a decent price
Hopefully by next week ill be able to throw some parts on the truck but i have alot of work to do this week and several estimates

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

I actually did a little this weekend . I am going to sell my 87 3/4 ton so I went to take it out of the barn and found that the battery was dead . Charged it . Decided to change the valve stem seals since it has a small puff on startup from the stem seals being dry and install the new GM EGR valve I had ordered to cure a stumble it had . I dont like changing stem seals with the engine still in the vehicle but oh well . I put it all back together and took the belts off to install the new ones I bought several months back . The A/C was the wrong length but the others fit . I fired it up and checked it out . Every thing looks good . I am going to wash it , wax it , and drive it tomorrow if I get off soon enough and then I will call the new owner . I also did a little yard work today , went to Lake Somerville yesterday for a Fish fry of my brother-in-laws, a confirmation today followed by lunch , and washed the wifes car . Frank

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

I swore a lot on Friday because I had to make my 35 drive home at the tail end of rush hour with no turn signals and no power to my cooling fans. Ended up OK after a couple tense slowdowns in traffic.

Satuday, hung around and watched my nephew's youth hockey game, which is a weird thing to say in TN.

Today I got the painless adjustable thermostat installed and adjusted. Drove around a bit and never got it over 200 degrees. The turn signals turned out to be a fuse.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

Went to a VW swap meet sat. mornin to help my buddy pick up some eng, parts for his VW kit car.

After that I spent the afternoon and evening doin some suspension work on a 69 Firebird convertable for a friend of a friend. He's a real good dude.

Today I rode out to Peoria to pick up some parts for my rust rocket. Thanks again up there Bowtieguy. You've got a real nice project goin. Hopefully I won't have the right to call thing a rust rocket soon.

On the way home I got a call from the before mentioned firebird owner. He wants me to come back and weld some floorboards in that thing.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

sorta truck related. ive been thinking about getting rid of my 84 for the past year. it hasnt been driven more then a few blocks from my house in almost 2 years, until yesterday. took it on a 600 km road trip to pick up a toolbox and realized how reliable it had been before i let it rot in the driveway. decided i'll ditch the buckets and console (99.9% reason its never driven) for a 40/20/40 seat and get it painted next month.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

went to my favorite bone yard and found a set of rally center caps for the wheels on the slug for $15. brought my boys, they seemed to really like all the old trucks, my youngest (5) got excited when he saw some school busses sitting there.
got home and started demo on the rear porch i built 2 years ago, we are now going with a treated wood deck.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

went to pick-a-part,got a pass side window for the '84 CC. Brough tit home, pulled off the tint and found that RUBBING ALCOHOL works amazing on the tint glue. Bubbled right up and came off. Then I installed it in the truck and TA-DA! I now have a window in the truck. AND I may have sold the '99 Silverado.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

I placed 2 orders last week!! One from Sir Michaels and one from Mar-K! I am going to fix the damage from a little accident that I was in last fall. I picked up the truck yesterday and a full bed of mulch! It was loaded down and I still had 4 inches before the bumpstops! I haven't hauled anything with it since I lowered the rear. It made the 2 hour trip back to Dallas without a problem!!

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

I changed out my steering wheel and ignition cylinder on the 80. Didn't get a thing done on the engine, though I was planning on picking up a set of heads for it this weekend but something else came up that put me back in the poorhouse....

I had a minor accident with my 96 on Sunday afternoon. Backed into a Dodge Neon and punched a hole in it's front bumper with my hitch reciever. Fortunately, the owner is gonna settle outside of insurance, but unfortunately, there goes all my truck money for the next 2 months, so nothing is gonna get done till I start work at the beginning of May.

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

On the 80-fixed an oil leak, checked the plugs and found a couple were oil fouled, checked compression in all cylinders (good).Head is coming off next week.Replaced the weak master cylinder.Swapped carb and tuned a bit.Did the headlight relay install outlined in the faq section (wow!!).Found and fixed an electrical gremlin that's been bugging me.
On the 72-Finally got the cab home from the body shop (no primer, just patched, which ended up being a good thing) and set it on the frame.Got looking close at it and realized it was a total hack job.I went back out there and had a little heart to heart with the guy.Once I was done,I got the truth about what had happened and he's getting one more chance or my money back.
Now getting ready for the upcoming shift.

Started working on an engine cover for my '85.

Received the new prototype crossovers for my ARC6000 components. Made an appointment with the shop to install them so I can retain my warranty.

Ordered a new dash pad because mine cracked about 2 months ago.

I pulled the whole front of the motor down, swapped pulleys, pumps and installed the serpentine brackets to the block, painted some MT valvecovers and put the alternator on the Jimmy..

Here are a couple shots:

Re: What did you get done? 03/16

Finally tracked down some of my electrical woes that kept blowing fuses in the '74... replaced a couple of wire runs and a noise filter to the radio. Now the radio works and so does the lighter/charger!

Did an oil change too. So far I have put 513 miles on my new engine!
