Re: Whew!!

Be careful...You really need to know what is going on there.
Paint that is excessively "peely" is probably thin too. When you sand off the higher spots, you are thinning it everywhere. This can cause problems later. Not only from a "rubbing out" standpoint but UV protection too. Single-stage paints can look blotchy, where you actually see through in places. BC/CC paint loses UV protection and will fail earlier....peeling, fading, etc

Unless your painter was intending a "show" job that would be sanded "solid", there probably isn't enough paint on your average job to do that.

Re: Whew!!

Well considering that I am not wetsanding the paint..but the clear and the clear is what has the orange peel on it, that is what is getting knocked down.

I am not new to this, I do it on the side and have been detailing for 20 years. You can literally feel the orange peel in the clear and I am not taking it town to an extreme. using 1500 to knock it down and buffing. Some areas I am hitting with 1200 then 1500 and buffing...

The buffer is far more dangerous than what I am doing with the wetsanding.

Thanks though, and I agree...not something your average joe should tackle by any means.

I was just trying to help by giving fair warning. The original post didn't "read" like you were that experienced.....I just wasn't aware that "clear" wasn't paint.
