More shifter talk and questions 4 speed 4x4

A few days ago I bought a transfer case shifter from a board member without a picture and when I opened the box I was suprised to find that the shifter was bent the wrong way or so I thought.I've often wondered what would happen in this situation on a 69-70 4x4 with the 205 transfer case the shifter is offset more than the 71-72s so that the shifter comes through the hump in the middle instead of offset to the passenger side like the 71-72s but I wondered what if it was a 4 speed truck then when you shifted back into 2nd or 4th you might hit the transfer case shifter.I had heard that only the automatics in 69-70 came with the 205s and the 4 speeds came with the muncies or dana or rockwell whatever they were called but this shifter makes me believe that some 4 speeds came with the 205.this shifter doesn't bend back like all the others instead it bends side ways towards the driver,as far as I can tell it hasn't been heated and bent because it isn"t bent in both directions back and over ,just over and I doubt that someone coulddd get it straightened out perfect then bend it sideways. These pictures compare the 69-70 shifter to the 71-72 as well as the sideways bent one to the regular one. please let me know if any body has and info to back this up or prove otherwise thanks Mike

Re: More shifter talk and questions 4 speed 4x4

My son's 70 4x4 came with a SM 465 four speed and the NP 205. He is the second owner and the truck was bought that way by the original owner.

It has the transfer case shifter under the transmission shift lever and to the left side of the hump. The shift lever bolts up to the transfer case just like the 71-72's but the bends put the knob close to the driver. I can take a pic and post if you like.

I have 2 1970 4x4s with 4 speeds and 205 transfer cases. Both have the T case shifter that bends toward the driver like the one you have.

Re: More shifter talk and questions 4 speed 4x4

The shifter was from a '72 Blazer with a 4-speed SM465 and a NP205 x-fer case. Who knows what the PO's changed before I got it. If it does not work for you, let me know. I may have some pics of the inside........standby.......
