Pics plus electric fan

I got my electrica fan setup done based on this post another cheap electric fan build! . The fan will be controlled by a SPAL programmable controller. Here are a few more progress pics. I started this truck in 2000 and I just started working on it again. It is a little bit of a 68 and 72 GMC along with a 74 Chevy.

Re: Pics plus electric fan

In a recent thread concerning using that Jeep fan and towing the poster noted his temps were up using this fan only. A Jeep mechanic said the Jeeps use that fan only for normal applications and that fan plus an engine driven fan are used together on Jeeps with a towing package. Worth keeping in mind for anyone who might be doing some extended towing and depending on this fan to keep it all cool.

Real nice installation here though. Your attention to the mounts is great.

The origional posting has the fan mounting from the inside of the shroud. This one is mounted from the outside and looks much cleaner. The mounting difference could be added to the original post to give folks a choice of mounting options.

Re: Pics plus electric fan

I have the fan and plan to do this in the next few months as well. I like the mounting setup you have too. Looks like you slotted the shroud and used some rubber spacers for the two upper mounts. Correct? Did you make or buy the rubber block spacers? And that bracket on the bottom, did you fab that up as well?

Just enter the part number and select jeep in the drop down menu.

Re: Pics plus electric fan

I am wanting the do the same thing. the only problem i seem to have is i cant seem to get my fan shroud to fit my truck. it has a v8 in the v8 location(sbc 350). it has long water pump and sepertine pulleys off of a newer truck.it hits the bottom pulley. do i need to trim the shroud to have enough room or do ihave the wrong shroud? where there different ones? sorry about the long post. this shroud came off a 68 chevy truck.

Thanks for that! I was having trouble with the "moparparts.com" website everyone else was using. I would create a user account with all my info, but it would never let me log in to check out. I tried a couple different times and nada. Never had that problem before, so I gave up. Their price plus shipping is almost exactly the same.

I had the exact same issue. Then I ordered it from another place and got an email back telling me they don't sell recall parts and that my order was canceled. So, that's why I called this last place to confirm.

Happy to help out a fellow Jesse James.. how odd is that?

Sounds like the wrong shroud. Do you have a photo of it?

Just fit mine up. I can tell you the truck in the photos above does NOT have a short waterpump in it. lol. It's incredibly tight on a truck with a long waterpump. Like 1/16" kind of tight. Mine will fit but I think I'm going to do some cutting on the fan mounting tabs or the shroud to get a little more clearance. It looks like I can get another 1/4" or so. This is without serpentine belts. So, I'd say it will not work for your application.

Re: Pics plus electric fan

Sorry I forgot about this thread. This does have a short water pump on it, but this truck used to have a v-6 so it is not stock at all. I will have to keep an eye on the engine temps once I get this running but it is pretty impressive so far. You can drop a piece of paper a few inches away and it will suck it to the radiator.
