New guy, cab fit question

I just picked up my first Chevy project. I have done several Fords and Jeeps.
I have a 1955 1st series 3600 frame and running gear. frame has already been blasted, painted and assembled and engine/trans is in excellent condition. My question concerns cab compatibility. From looking at a couple of catalogs it seems like I could use any cab from 47-54. Is this right or will I run into fit and fab problems with the earlier cabs/front clips?

Re: New guy, cab fit question

if it really is a 55 first series frame then it should fit the later style cab mounts, but you could mount any cab from 47-55. im not sure when they changed the rear cab mounts, but i think it was from 50-55 first series. the early rear cab mount is a single center mount. but it wouldnt be hard to fab something up to adapt either style of rear mount. thats the only difference that i know of.

Re: New guy, cab fit question

Good project and half way there!!
It looks like a newer rear end, now would be a perfect time to change out the front suspension.
I would stay away from the 54 55 beds as there are different deeper for your frame from the looks of the rear x-member. The cabs should fit stay with Chevy and not GMC if it is in fact a Chevy chassis

Mount a seat and drive it as is! Good luck with your build. Keep us posted. As stated before, there are some differences year to year. My '54 sits on a older chassis. I had to have the chassis modded to fit the '54 bed.

Re: New guy, cab fit question

the rear cab mts are a shackel type one on each side at the rear of the cab,and the front has two flat tabs that are outboard of the frame inline w/ the dr. edge. thats 47-55 1st. series. and the beds changed in 1954 on up but are the same from 47 to 53. hope this helps
