Engine identificaton

Hello,

Does anyone know how to tell a 250 from a 292 on a 1966 Chevrolet C10? http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm?p1=engines has a chart, but don't say where to look for these codes. Does anyone know where these codes are, or another way to tell a 250 from a 292? I need to buy a fuel pump and they have different part numbers.

Thanks,
Eric

Hey Eric, The code is on a pad next to the distributor, but there is a quicker way to tell. A 292 has taller side covers (approx 6") compared to a 230 or 250 which are approx 4" tall. Yet another way to tell is that a 292 has staggered motor mounts, where the 230 and 250 have evenly positioned ones.
