voltage regulator question
I'm re-wiring my truck, bumper to bumper. Can I just throw out the old voltage regulator out and replace it with a new, modern alternator with the regulator built in? I can’t see where that would be a problem since I can direct wire the new one. Where am I wrong? Thanks

No problem with that. That's how I did mine when I rewired. Works much better. Just make sure if you use one of the newer CS type alternators that you wire in a resistor in the exciter circuit, 14V will eventually burn it out.

There is no reason to get a one wire, and quite a few advantages of a GM 3 wire. Converson kits are avalible, and if you look around, there's plenty of posts (try the FAQ section) with how to convert it without a kit.
