If that's a kitchen in the shop, you have it made. Why would you ever leave.
It's cabinets the guy helping me with the bodywork scored for free for storage.

Yeah, I wanted to get this done and go through one build before tackling a blazer. Hopefully I'll be able to sell this for a decent price when complete and use it to buy a beater longbed and a blazer project and have some cash left for the blazer....we shall see. So far I have about 20K worth of parts for much less than that in actual investment

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Here's a couple pictures of the steering wheel I just got. Came with the package deal of the wheels. Matches the wheels exactly. I will get a new half leather wrap in black or tan depending on what I decide on for the interior. But the good news is he sent the horn button and billet adapter with the wheel.

It needs to be polished, but if you can tell from the reflection, it's pretty nice already.

If the brown truck would speed up a little I'd have them. Should have them early next week

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

had to keep the thread clean you know....

Well, I'm not thrilled as the PO of the rims shipped them in shrink wrap which was shredded by UPS and there are scratches and some small dings in the outer rim....But for 4-5,000 less than new, it's hard to complain

Here are the pictures

Before cleaning

After 5 minutes with a powerball

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Only got one in today...the rest should be here tomorrow hopefully. I won't be test fitting them for a while because the next stages are frame cleaning, then C-notch and after that frame painting and detailing.
Then airbags, airlines, compressors, tank, frame mounted battery drop box, super trac bar, lowering blocks, Drop spindles, and disc brakes go on. By then the body work should be done and possibly paint and it'll be time for assembly. Wish I would have gotten these to mock up before then but oh well.....

Alright, I guess you can test fit them on my garage ornament. What's the specs on them?
Btw, what happened to the coys you have/had?

They coys were 5 lug and I decided to stay 6 lug so I wouldn't have to mess with the rear. Also, there are SOOO many with coys I wanted to find something different (even thought I LOVE the way the coys look). They are a 20/22 combo....They are 20X9 Front 5.5 bs and 22X10 rear with 6"BS

They make the wheels in 5 spoke/5 lug. This is the ONLY set in 6 lug in existance. It was made for a show truck. I paid 1400 SHIPPED for them. THe steering wheel is 389 from Budnik without shipping. So I feel I did pretty good even with some scratches....but we'll see if they fit and see how the other wheels fared when they arrive.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

No updates on the truck other than there has been more body work/rust repair done and I haven't been over to see it because I have been working on my house. Built a 16X18 deck. Also helped my brother in law move in including painting the entire upstairs, remodeling his bathroom (full demo to the studs), refinishing his hardwood floors, tiled his fireplace, etc....

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Well, I have been very busy with my new job (happy to have it ) and in my evenings doing little projects around the house, and weekends getting the yard done and family events so not much progress on the truck. Jason has had a bunch of side work come in as well so he slowed for a bit but just got back on the cab work.

He got the final cab support welded on, filled more of the rocker seam, started smoothing the door jams to prep for the bear claw latches, and shaved the other rocker pinch weld. Also started the drip rail shave. I like the look with it simply cut off and welded shut at the point he's done it. End result should be something like Eric D's "Silver Bullet"

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Got the frame power washed this evening. Of course for the first half hour there was something amiss with the motor and the prossure wasn't that high so it wasn't doing much. Tinkered with it and got it working better and it took off most of the grime and loose paint from the PO's spray bomb job. Going to hit it with a wire cup and take off the rest of the unneccessary brackets Sunday or Monday. Also going to mock up the drop battery box, compressors, air tank, c-notch, and bags to get holes drilled. Then will get it painted in Rustoleum hammered finish.

Jason (the guy helping me with the welding/body work) was working on welding the couple of holes in the rear floor and the cab supports. Had one fender sanded and fillered then sanded back down ready for primer. Looks and feels smooth as a baby's bottom A lot of work even though it was a new repop.

Here are the before and during pictures of the frame. Too dark for afters tonight. Will get them after I wire cup it...

TONS of grease in the crossmember

Tranny crossmember had 1/2" of grease on it from leaky tranny pan and old engine. Found out it had exactly ZERO bolts holding it in Really upset with the PO...between this, the motor mounts having no bolts to the crossmember, and one bolt holding the tranny mount in, I'm surprised the drivetrain didn't fall out while I was driving down the road

Engine crossmember halfway clean

Note the clean mark on the front of the tranny crossmember....those familiar with pressure washers will notice I had the tip adjusted smaller than I should...it was the only way I was getting enough pressure to start with...after tinkering I got it working with a wider fan spray which worked better of course...

Bare metal on the tranny crossmember PO must have cleaned this up when he did the motor/tranny swap but whatever paint he used didn't stick or the tranny fluid made it come off...
