Re: ls1 swap, anyone doing it?

I'm getting things ready to do 5.3 swap, so any info here will be helpful. I think there are a few here that have done it.

Re: ls1 swap, anyone doing it?

I am getting ready to do it as well. A 5.3L in a 69 GMC...I already have the engine/harness/and computer...still trying to work out details with it and transmission specifics as I am wanting to run a 700R4 in it. Will post when I get going on it...

Re: ls1 swap, anyone doing it?

Some buddies and I are currently putting a 01 LS1 in my 81 short-wide, and its gone basically well.. I used painless wiring, hooker LS1 street rod headers, and pcmforless tuning.
One of my buddies that helping me with my swap, has a 72 2wd blazer with a 5.3 and 700r4, and his blazer runs extremely well, and could basically be daily driven..

Re: ls1 swap, anyone doing it?

Actually been thinkin of swappin the 454 for an L92 in the 76, or maybe droppin one in the 87 3/4 ton the 454 came out of. Easy to get 500+hp from one of those and you still get good mileage with them. Also easy to change to ethanol, since that is one of my other projects.

I have plenty of buds who have swapped LS1s into stuff, mostly 3rd gen F bodies. The 4L80E would be perfect for towin my project vehicles between Nebraska and Michigan.

Strange, it isnt on the local boards. You mean we missed someone in Charleston who owned a F body? Unpossible!

Re: ls1 swap, anyone doing it?

I put an LS-1 and 4L60E in my Blazer. I had never done a complete engine swap like this before and had NEVER wired an engine before. Do your homework and learn about the swap and it is worth it!

Re: ls1 swap, anyone doing it?

check out Street and Performance at http://hotrodlane.cc/. I think they are a little overpriced. But, they have an arse-load of information that'll help on the swap.
