Tow Mater Progress Log

I decided to keep a log of my adventures. Today I removed the front clip and the engine/ tranny is ready for lift off. Everything is disconnected. The only thing holding it in are the motor mounts. I figured I could re use most of the things I pulled off. The goal is to keep the cost as low as possible in parts, but I have to do it right the first time.

The engine will be out tomorrow and I'll finish up with the cab too. The short term goal is to have the cab ready for prep work by the end of thursday.

Re: Tow Mater Progress Log

the army is relocating my family and i to ohio in late july. so, i NEED to have at least the body on the new chassis by that time. logistically, i can't move the chassis and the body separately.

i'll worry about connecting the engine and all that when i get to ohio. but, i want to finish everything by the end of this year. the disassembly portion of a build is always the quickest.

Please keep us updated! I love that color combo of a nice black frame and the yellow accents on the engine.

Re: Tow Mater Progress Log

Today's update:

Pulled the engine out. I forgot to drain the tranny but I was reminded fairly quickly. (as the fluid is dripping onto the driveway and the boy yells "oh oh daddy")

Most of today was spent cleaning up the spill and eating ice cream with the boy.

I did make about 20 calls to different shops that do sandblasting. I found one in Lake Wales, FL. He's been around for 20+ years. Another shop actually referred him to me. I just want to sandblast the cab for now. So, tomorrow, I should be dropping the cab off.

Here's the inspiration for the Tow Mater theme.

Anyone wanna buy a 292 I6?

Re: Tow Mater Progress Log

295/ 50 15

I love the wide look. But I'm going to have to get at least 18". The new chassis is dropped 2".

Any suggestions? Nothing chrome. Something that looks stock to the "average" person.
