Re: Does Heavy Half mean my truck is fat?

We don't have smog checks here so the guy who owned it before me put on headers and glass packs, ran it duel, and took off all of the smog stuff including the cat. I don’t like the sound or the smell of it so I'm putting it all back and I'm looking to improve it with some more modern technology. They do smog checks for a reason and I like being able to breath.

I don't believe the heavy half truck even had a catalytic converter in the first place ? As far as other smog stuff, it's non existent on mine...which is a 77.

If you really want to run catlytic converters, just buy two high flow cats and install one on each side, right after the headers. As a side effect they will make those glasspacks quieter, and less raspy. They will have more of a deep sound with the cats. No reason to scrap it all, unless it's just a poorly fabricated exhaust system.

Oh yeah the fabrication and welding on it are terrible, some of it’s held up with baling wire. It had a cat though, there’s a sticker on the top side of the visor that encourages you not to remove it

LOL, hell if it don't have baling wire it's not a truck!

I looked in the glove box on mine and there isn't a sticker showing the options. Could be because the only thing this truck has was A/C.

His is '79 tho, think this was the year the cats got really enforced upon auto manufacturers. I do agree with the other suggestion tho - just run a pair of high-flow cats, no reason to use air pumps and diverter valves and all that BS anymore.
