Sway Bars...

My truck is an 80 C10 Scottsdale, 2wd, about to be slammed to the ground with spindles, 2 inch springs, and a flip kit.

My question is, how beneficial do you guys think the stock sway bar is?

I don't have the money for an aftermarket, but my truck already has the holes, and a stock one is only like 8 bucks from the junk yard, including the bushings. I already looked at it, and the bushings are good and the bar looks almost new.

My truck didn't even come with one from the factory, so I would be adding it, but it's already got the mounting brackets.

Definitely worth it! Use the stock 1 1/16" sway bar or even a 1 1/4" sway bar off the 3/4-ton trucks. It will drive so much better. If you're going to slam it,... skip using the factory front frame stands and bolt it directly to the frame. DO it!

I lowered my '80 the same way and bought a junkyard sway bar off of an '89 Burb about a month later and man, what a difference! Well worth it IMO. My truck didnt have the brackets on it so I bolted it right to the bottom of the frame after drilling a few holes. Ive heard that is the way to go anyway because if you ever hit a speed bump or bottom out a little the sway bar brackets would be the first thing to hit the pavement using the stock brackets. You could buy the lower profile brackets from ECE but bolting directly to the frame has been done plenty of times and its cheaper. I will try to snap a pic this afternoon so you can see my setup.

I would spend a few bucks and get new bushing. Even if the old ones look good, why not replace them now and be done. They are fairly cheap at your local autoparts.

hey x......there was a thread on this the other day.you might find some intresting reading.i think it's well worth doing.you'll feel a big difference.like ken says.get some new bushings.there not that much.the old originals you'll find at junkyard will probably be in sad shape.

I can say from first-hand experience that this is absolutely true.

It will make a very noticable differance, no more sea sickness from body roll. If you do put one on use the poly urethane bushings they last longer and you'll get better performance. if you can find a rear sway bar it will improve even more.

I haven't had time to get it yet, but I plan on it. We had so many problems with the spindles and flip kit that I don't even wanna mess with a sway bar yet.

It's a pretty easy install, you won't regret it. In my opinion it's a must for these trucks, they feel kind of dangerous without one. I picked up mine at the yard for $40 with all the brackets (they pulled it) and spent $20 on moog poly bushings. It's drives like a different truck. One other trick for clearance it to put the bar on the topside of the big front brackets, this will pick up a couple inches with no drilling and it's about the same height as the ECE brackets all together.

The absolute best 20 dollars I have ever spent on my truck. I wish I had one fore the rear. Mine came from an 87 3/4 ton burban.
