So are tweed interiors out?

When I did my last '68 C10, I did the entire interior in grey tweed. Dash, door panels, roof, pillars, kick panels, etc. It came out sweet but this was also 10+ years ago.

So are tweed interiors out now a days? I just picked up another '68 and was thinking about doing this again, since it is fairly cheap and easy to do.

Thoughts???

Part of the GONE network IMO. I file it with Heartbeat stickers, teal metallic paint, and Hot pink accent striping. Go stock, and it will never out style!

Me personally I never liked em. But I prefer stock or early 70s and older styling.

Tweed interiors are out if you dont like them. Whether something is in or out seems like it should be a personal decision.

How can a material as comfortable and durable as tweed ever go out of style? Now velour is a different story

Re: So are tweed interiors out?

I never cared for it much myself... let alone covering every surface with it.
I haven't seen anything locally with tween in 10 years, with the exception of the left over pro street cars from the 80's.(the ones for show, not the real race car ones)

Re: So are tweed interiors out?

I didn't care much for tweed when it was in style.I don't like it well enough to do a whole interior in it but maybe a seat and DP's.The only reason for that is comfort. If it's a driver the original is great but for a show truck leather is in.It works well in a driver too but is pricey.I think the real deal on a driver is to use something comfy that you like.To do a show truck I believe if you find something that is unique and has an understated look you can add a few points.

Re: So are tweed interiors out?

It reminds me of in the 70's when people would cover the whole inside of the truck or van with shag carpet...and I do mean everything inside!

Bwahaaa... thats funny!

Thats why I think when it comes to paint, body, and interior, the closer to stock the better. These trucks are popular because they looked good from the factory. Keep it simple and it will be timeless.
Speaking of out... how about southwest colors and graphics?

PS... yea, I know my drivetrain isnt stock... but I hate slow.

Re: So are tweed interiors out?

I love tweed! Im doing a combination of tweed and vinyl in my 71. I covered the dash, bottom of door panels, and sides of console in vinyl. Covered custom door panels, sunvisors, headliner, kick panels, and top of console in tweed. I had seats done in velour/tweed combination. Its cheap and easy to work with. Everyone had there own opinion, so if you like it go for it! I dont like to see tweed just everywhere in the interior, but some people do. Ive also gone up around street rods and tweed will never be out for street rods!

Re: So are tweed interiors out?

I like it as a fabric but I've never liked vehicles that had it on every square inch of the interior.

Tweed is great when used as an accent to other materials. It helps break things up, comes in many varietys, & wears well.

Some may say that tweed is done, but in a few years these 'all pleather' interiors that are the current rage will go the same route. My opinion is it will happen for the same reasons..... covering everything w/the same fabric becomes excessive.

For 60-80's trucks, a combination of stock w/different fabrics selectively used will keep them 'classic' looking w/a touch of modern updates as well.

Re: So are tweed interiors out?

Funny, I just re-did the interior of my truck in Tweed. But I don't think I over did myself.

Here's a few pics.

The cheapie seat covers are a very temporary fix. The seat will get covered in the same tweed as well.

Might not be everybody's cup of tea, but then again, it ain't everybody's truck, it's mine.
