Re: Project: Mistress

I joined around a week ago and decided to look thru the build threads and happened to pull yours up first and I really enjoyed all of the posts and updates and photos. The color and truck turned out fantastic. I am leaning towards the same color as a two-tone with the top the sunburst and bottom a gun metal grey or close. Great job and it was a joy reading your entire build. Thank You.

Hi Rich....frame work was $300.....It was an old cat that has been doing it for years....I think it would of been less if I took him the bare frame...they had to loosen some of the body panels, etc....hope this helps...and thanks for the compliments!

Re: Project: Mistress

Okay...finally installed the VC and air cleaner cover....what do ya think?...
I installed perma-dry plus gaskets and reused the T-bars hold downs (which I DON'T like)...I'll be changing those out....But noticed there was oil leaks on the passenger side about half way back along the outside...I don't want to reuse the spreader bars, but how can I get it to seat better??

Maybe the studs are too long on the T bars and bottoming out prior to tigtening up on the valve cover. Try adding a couple of washers to the T bars. Did you let the motor get hot and then retighten them? This seems to help the gaskets seat. Also, I always run a thin layer of permatex on the valve cover before placing the gasket on, but that's just me. Hope this helps.

Looks good in there. Other than the spreader bars, I'm not sure...maybe someone else will chime in.

Re: Project: Mistress

So I finally worked on the Mistress a little more this weekend....needed to install the radio and kick panel speakers...It was a pretty easy install once I found a good ground....next I finally got lighting to the gauges in the center panel and hooked up the voltmeter.....then I finally decided to get the fuel gauge working...I had wired it wrong (it took me 2 nights to figure it out, but I got it resolved).....and since I had the bench seat out, I went ahead and installed my original lap belts that were in the truck when I bought it (gonna install 3 pt belts soon so these are temporary)....also, finally got the engine bay cleaned up by installing stainless steel bolts as hold downs on the valve covers (removed the T-bars).....here's a looky at my progress....

Hey Thanks so much MrBlue.....

exhausts sounds like....wah, chirp, wahhhhh, chirp, wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (only a TH400)

just kidding.....still sounds good to me, but will take it out back at some point.....just sounds too good to me right now!!!

When I first drove it home (took about an hour), it was cold out and I rode home with the windows up.....When I got out it was like I had the bass in the stereo up full blast for the last hour...

Thanks for looking!!!
