What do ya'll think?

ok guys, i've got an 85 shortbed in primer black......

i have an idea for a set of rally wheels painted the same black primer with the chrome trim rings and chrome center/chrome lugnuts.

what do ya'll think? here is a pic of a truck just like mine minus the wheels/tires.....

do ya'll think it'll look pretty decent? oh i'll go with 15x8's with a 275-60-15 tire. looking to do this possibly in the next few weeks.

I like it the way it is, not much of a fan of black wheels

Re: What do ya'll think?

well the wheels and tires that are on that truck are not the ones that are on mine..again, that is not my truck, just one that is almost identical to mine with the exception to the wheels/tires...mine have something diferent but the rest of the truck is the same.

if i can take some old 15x8 rally's, invest in some trim rings, lugs, center cap and it look decent i might go that way.

just curious what ya'll thought.

I think it'll look pretty good.. and you can always repaint them or chrome them or whatever if you don't like the way it looks.

Re: What do ya'll think?

that is true also. now should i try and find a set of the rally's at a junk yard off an old truck (they were 15x8 right?) or should i just buy a new set and start from there?

I'd use the rallys off an old truck.. sandblast them(the best way to start) or use some scotchbrite to clean them up real good.. I'd just use a good spray on filler primer to prime them up then paint. I plan on doing the same when I repaint my truck.. to whatever color I end up with.

You can get the trim rings from Wal Mart if you had to.. the centers I'd buy new from any parts store/dealer if you couldn't find any in a yard.

Re: What do ya'll think?

If you paint you're wheels a bright contrasting color, they will really pop! My truck is black with bright red rallys. I know thats a popular color combo but it looks good.

Re: What do ya'll think?

i was thinking that if i painted them a darker color then silver that might make the chrome rings, cap, lugs stand out more. then once i paint the truck white - i was going to paint the rally's white.....

I'd put the time and money into lowering the back of the truck some more.

Re: What do ya'll think?

I would go with silver, but that's just me. I just finished painting 5 rallys last week. I sandblasted them down to bare metal, painted the back and rim section black and the faces silver. I used Case-IH tractor paint for both the black and the silver and it looks damn good. Just my 2 cents worth.
Most decent salvage yards should have a complete set of rallys. The yard I use gets $25 for a rim with ring and center cap.
Be aware that most vans use the 6.5" rally and occasionally you will run accross the 7" version as well.

Re: What do ya'll think?

I love the rake on your truck... those rims would really set it off out here in charleston SC... for some reason that seems to be the current trend out here... old school with colored rims.

Re: What do ya'll think?

I think it will look great, of course.

I've been thinking with my 87 GMC:
Truck=Primer black/semi gloss
GLOSS black rallies
91 gmc grille with the trim gloss also instead of semi--just to add a little contrast

Re: What do ya'll think?

Im not a fan of the flat black but i do like the satin finish. In my experiance black looks better with larger diameter rims. Ever think about powdercoating them?

side note: what drop is that?

Re: What do ya'll think?

what do you guys think about the american racing torque thrust and the torqlites? i really like the torqlites cause i've always loved the look of the telstars and the prostars but they are so dang pricey. and the street stars look good but i can't find them in a 5x5 lug pattern online.......looking to do something wheel wise this next week. i want to stay around 4-5 hundred bucks for the wheels.

Re: What do ya'll think?

I have some cragar street stars, I think thats what they are called. They look just like the ones on the black truck.
Here These:

They need to be polished up and you should replace one because it is bent. They are still available new from summit. I'd let em go real cheap. Pm me if you are interested.
