Re: Finally home and with my truck
haha good call hdflstf. And yes I do have a good story to tell haha. it's okay that you didn't have tires by the way now I have a 4 way and floor jack just in case.
So here goes. Yesterday go up to DesertPOS place in Arcadia about 140-150 miles away to get my truck. He's great. Helps me out real well and we get on our way. I, not being the quickest thinker in the bunch have my buddy drive in front of me cause he knows the area better. Well we get to Anaheim and all the sudden POP, truck bucks forward so I pull off the freeway to find that the bedside which was fixed literally about a week ago because someone hit it is now dented and the paint is taken off of it because low and behold my tread decided to do it's own thing and fly off. Well after a healthy cursing/kicking/yelling session I finally get ahold of my buddy who's a good 20 miles up the road and he comes back well while it's taking him forever to get back I call up my good bud Hdflstf and tell him of my woes. Finally my buddy gets there and we find a floor jack and tire iron and get her back on the road and got home with no further issue. One great thing is all the front disc set up is in the back all nicely packaged and awaiting the install at hdflstf's place at the August SoCal Meet

Re: Finally home and with my truck
Now you have a little time to go over all the safety related items before you come up this way in a couple of weeks. Glad you didn't have any more issues getting home.
Sounds like you buddy needs to get some new rear view mirrors in his car |

Re: Finally home and with my truck
haha or use them. Speaking of mirrors...mine are shaved and I have the big old country bumpkin ones that came with it and I want to put them back on cause right now it's the guessing game or glancing over the shoulder to change lanes and what not. any advice?

Re: Finally home and with my truck
whats a road trip without some kind of drama?
I'll tell you what it is... booring! A tire is a good problem to have, but it totally sucks that it claimed the bedside as it exited the wheel well. I had a front left tire decide to toss it's tread in my old GMC. The bummer is, I didn't see it for about 5 miles. I had it hooked to a tow bar, and was dragging it with a 25 foot moving van. That sucker damaged a perfectly good fender (by perfectly good, I mean 6 quarts of bondo making it look good) and also ripped a hole in the floor of the truck. When I pulled over, there was a 24 inch long section of tread in the truck on the drivers side floor board. Had me totally p!ssed. Anyways... welcome home |

Re: Finally home and with my truck
How nice it is to bond with your buds.....
Glad you got what you went after and that the trip was any more eventful than it got to be. A slow build? I've had mine since Halloween of '99. As of right now, it's sitting in my driveway, awaiting the removal of the engine/transmission. There is no sheetmetal on the frame except for the cab/doors. When will it end???

Re: Finally home and with my truck
hahaha...mine might end up being we'll have to see. Right now I'm saving the money for tires and gonna leave the bedside since it doesn't look that bad for the moment. i'm going to start working on the mirrors first then go from there

Re: Finally home and with my truck
Welcome home again...In regards to the mirrors, you can use the "peep" mirrors that mount to the door without drilling holes. There are a couple of different styles and they're sold by several of the board vendors or on ebay.

Re: Finally home and with my truck
I second the thanks, despite how short that word falls in projecting the emotion (I believe) most of us feel towards those that serve, largely selflessly, for a set of principals, pride, honor, and nationalism that is being attacked on a daily basis from within our borders by our own "citizens".
Again, thank you for your service (and welcome home!), from a peacetime ex-sailor. Kris
