deer gets another one

pics coming up.................. pretty much totaled i just got home from emergency room..................haven't got the truck here yet...............being towed right now.
On my way to work at 5:20 deer runs out.I lock it up rying to save truck and end up sliding off the road over the bank into brush and trees.......

I probably will end up storing the truck until I can make a rational decison on it's future.if there is one.

Re: deer gets another one

okay I got it home.........................575 dollar tow bill ( thanks to State Farm I will get re-imbursed the most of that from my roadside coverage) I can't start it because the shroud is pushed over into the fan...............mechanicaly looks "okay" bent front frame horns and the tailpipe of course.............new Magnaflow exhaust last Friday. I believe I can save this truck.....................the biggest challenge i see is that cab crunch above the passengers side.
If I decide to re-do this truck it will get a frame shortening for a short box at this point.

Looks salvageable for sure. Heck If you want a shortbed, let the insurance total it, buy it back and use the money to buy a Shortbed and swap all the parts from your's? Glad you are OK, as for the truck it can be replaced or repaired.

Re: deer gets another one

It actually looks like alot of damage to me. I would think the damage to the roof of the cab is going to be pretty difficult to fix. Course, with my lack of body work skills, what do I know.

That cab is toast. Get another truck. Salvage what you can from this one. You would have been better off to just hit the deer head on.

You are definitely right about that......hit the deer head on (in retrospect) I also got news that where i ended up down in that ravine was private property and they are sticking my insurance for the clean up of the right away????????????!!!!!!

I stopped and lookedon the ride home and actualy I did them a favor by bulldozing over the dead tree with the truck.that is what toasted the front end and the tree, about 20 inches in diameter is what came down on the cab and tailgate.

What is the general groups opinion here on that cab roof.???..........I just spent lots of time replacing the floors and restoring the rest of the interior..............new glass. rear slider...............new seals.............new regulators...new mat...............new stainless sill

plates................on and on.

By the way I have a 2 1/2 inch gash on my forehead...............whiplash and tweaked back...............but doing pretty good.

scary part was after i came to in the cab and smelled the gas..I couldn't open either door.................thanks to the rear slider i got out...........................I will never be without that feature in a truck ever again.

Seriously though...............is that cab roof that bad of a repair? It is tweaked all of the wa across the top of the door.

I also thought about banging out what i could and just keeping it as a beater..............(which is what I started with 4 years ago!!!!!!)

Best thing about it ................there is a little humor here...................the divorce appraisal just took a big nose dive!! HA!

That cab looks pretty tweaked. Why couldn't you open the doors? Broken handles or is that cab that tweaked?

If the majority of the rust repair is done on the cab and it's still "square".... maybe try your had at replacing the roof? There was a guy that had a tree fall on his truck and I think he replaced a large section of the roof.

Sorry 'bout the wreck, glad you're OK. Next time, nail bambi's ass to the front bumper

I wonder if you could use a stud welder and slide hammer and pull the dents out of that roof. The part above the door at the drip rail might be a little bit harder. A friend of mind had the rear quarter panel on his truck scrub up against a brick wall and it curled the panel up and behind the rest of the bedside. His uncle restores vehicles for a living and at first he was going to cut the quarter panel off and weld in a new one but when he got to working on it he was able to uncurl the panel and didn't need the patch panel. You can't even tell the panel had ever been messed up.

WOW! Glad you're ok. What exactly happened when it went off the road? What did you hit? Did you hunt the deer down and shoot it?

If you have some body work experiance you can change the inner and outer roof skins and repair the roof frame structure. I replaced mine in a little less than a weekend

The trees and brush were so thick that the truck went into the "patch" and everything just folded back up against the doors and held them shut..............lot of large branches and stuff against both sides of the truck...........of course i told the state cop to ask them to try to minimize the damage winching it back out of the ravine but as you can see they just yarded it out which is why the tail pipe is folded forward and the pasengers mirror was ripped off by being pulled forward( hung up when truck was pulled back up out of the hole.

glad to see you are okay, first and foremost. $575 tow bill. what a rape! we have laws here that keep towing companies from overcharging. hope everything works out for you.

prg, sorry about the accident. I don't know squat about bodywork so I'll just say I'm glad you were not badly injured. The forehead should heal okay (I hear chicks dig scars ) -- but spinal stuff can be serious, I hope your neck & back problems are minor and temporary. Don't sign off an any injuries unless you (and your doctor) are 100% positive there will be no recurring issues.

Good luck, keep us posted on your progress -- and the truck's.

It looks like a 4 - bolt fix to me. Un-bolt the cab and replace it with a "new" better one. Salvage your parts, you'll be a lot happier in the long run

damn that sucks man, but from the looks of it i think it can all be fixed with some time and effort, no sense parting out a good truck when you can fix what you have

goodluck with it and glad to hear that you are in better shape than the truck
