this '67 just fell into my hands!
I am really looking for a '55 , (year that I was born), but I couldn't pass this '67 shorty up. One owner, ( mechanic now 82), 283, 4sp, cap on her since new, no rust, barn kept and babied. Not sure what I am going to do with her.....

http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl...cks/index.html (67-72 Trucks=Icon Status)
and Same thing happened to me. I was looking for the same era of truck when I stumbled across a 70cst (same year that I graduated). It was a fully optioned truck but not nearly as nice as yours. These trucks (67-72) have a large following plus parts are still fairly easy to get and are still somewhat affordable. Lots of vendors plus most of the vendors know these trucks. (ie Wes-Classic Heartbeat, Tim-Christian-Christian Classics, and Paul-GMC Pauls) There are many others but these three I have purchased from in the past. This site is a wealth of info and are always ready to help you. Also read the above linc....Great info about how theae trucks are reacinging Icon status. Welcome aboard.

Re: this '67 just fell into ny hands!
Thanks for the welcome! I realy want a '55......but... the more that I look at this truck, the more amazed I am..... almost EVERYTHING works....original paint, no rust anywhere...... all the lights, gauges, heater, even the roof mounted hazar light that is missing the yellow lens freakin' works!
It's a four wheel drive, 4speed with the granny first. He took the 283 out 9years ago and went through it , upgrading the valve train so it could run on unleaded fuel..... it has seen 278 miles since then..... plow went on in the eighties so he could do his driveway.... it hadn't been on the road regularly since 1990 they thought, ( last reg they could find). The old guy had a stroke a year and a half ago, his wife didn't want to have to keep looking at it, so they decided to sell it....don't know how you sell something you have owned for 41 years..... her daughter-in-law is a client of mine...that's how I found out about it. Almost didn't bother to go look at it because of the year...... I bought it on the spot...... next day returned with plates and drove it 22 miles home.... went down the road like it was driven yesterday....except for the weather cracked tires it would pass inspection as it sits.. pretty cool truck. Don't know what I'm gonna do with it yet. Seems to be very original except for the white roof... the paint code is Vermillion Poly and I don't think it was 2 tone. Re: this '67 just fell into ny hands!
Very nice looking truck..
IMO you could matbe remove the Plow and Lose the topper and you should be able to get a very nice 55 in no time for that Gem. i know guys down here in Florida that would give you 10+ grand just to turn it into a mud drag truck.

Re: this '67 just fell into my hands!
Yep..plow is gonna go..... my son said he would kill me if I beat her up plowing with her. Gotta dump the cap and find a tonneau for her. I checked through the front end tonight.... all good and tight...looks like she has been greased about twice for every mile she has been driven in the last ten years.... looks like he oil undercoated it pretty regular too. Wouldn't take too much to puff this 'ol girl up... shee'll probably have convulsions if I put radials on her, huh? Has God knows how old J78X15 bias ply Goodyears on her.
The paint code is 4515AA...... anyway of telling if the roof was white from the factory? Thanks, great forum! Dave |

Ditching plow? Is it a fisher setup? If so, I'd be interested in the pump/brackets/crank pulley, hoses/valve body, plus cable and controls. Don't want blade or push plates, good scappage value as they are heavy. You may PM me so this does not turn into a buy/sell thead. Nice truck BTW

Re: this '67 just fell into ny hands!
I'd loose the plow, topper, and then put some nice new chrome bumpers on it, new tires (and maybe wheels), polish up the paint and drive it!

Re: this '67 just fell into ny hands!
Very nice find !!! The white top is not original, there would be white paint on the top of the door/window frame and the front windshield pillar. I suspect it was painted to match the topper.

Re: this '67 just fell into ny hands!
IIRC In 67/68, two-tone paint jobs were different than 69-72. What you describe is correct for 69-72 only. In 67/68 the main body color was painted on the windshield pillars and the door frames, with only the top and back of cab painted in the secondary color.

Was it also correct to paint it down to the body line on the 67/68's?

Re: this '67 just fell into ny hands!
Well I can't say for sure about the 67, but we own a 68 that is painted like I said. We did part out a two tone white top 67 several years ago, and it also had the divider strip on the back of the cab. Maybe the doors and pillars were not painted, can't remember. But since it does not have divider strip, I assume that was a good place to stop the paint when it got the white top, not factory. Little paint details aside, that is a very nice truck, I would be very happy to own that, original and not messed with, that is the best.
