Question Wiper problems

I have a 1987 Gmc truck with delay wipers and the problem that I am having is that when I start the truck, the wipers cycle once and then while driving the wipers will cycle every now and then, I have replaced the control arm and it still cycles, so when it is not raining I have to pull out the fuse to stop it. Is there anything that I can do to stop this problem, also my two brothers have Chevy trucks and they have the same problem with their wipers. Any ideas.

Cool

GMC87,

There is only one true solution. Add an additional cut off switch. The GM engineers were very "smart" in their electrical wiring by having power to the wiper motor all the time. To keep the wipers from moving when you start your trucks, turn the key quickly to start the truck. I had a similiar problem while driving. The wipers would almost always come on at a stop light. I replaced the wiper motor and the problem went away. I still have to put up with the movement at start up. I hate it espcially after I washed and cleaned the truck.

there is a finned type box on the end of your steering column under your dash. actually its under that little square addition at the bottom of the steering column. anyways that little finned box that looks like a very small stereo amp. that is probably bad. that is one of the problems i was having with mine. i found one at a wrecking yard a put it on and now it turns off and on and the delay works, but i still have one problem, my wipers run slow sometimes, i still believe its the box because the one i got from the yard was from a burb that had been totally submerged in salt water. i took it home and cleaned it up and put it on but as i said the wipers run slow sometimes. that im quiet sure is gonna be your problem. let me know, i may need to replace mine with a new one. good luck
