I pulled the motor/trans from a 67 and bolted it into the 70 project truck...

Motor is a 350
Trans is a TH400

Motor is installed on the front-most engine tower bolts (as it was in the 67) - and the trans is on the x-member and the drive shaft is also installed...I copied the bolt holes used on the 67 when I transferred it over...

Now - the 67 had some janky (piece of wire) accelerator linkage from the gas pedal arm on the firewall to the carb...the stock one is still on the pedal arm on the 70 and it is too short to reach the carb...(I can get pix if that will help you understand what I am saying)

What have you guys done to correct this - is there a longer linkage or do I need to fab something up? I can't move the engine back to the other tower bolt holes since everything else is already bolted down and fits like it should (well except for the linkage to the carb).

go buy a universal cable in the aftermarket parts section at Autozone or where ever local Auto store (cheap)...or order something like a Lokar cable setup from Summit or Jegs (spendy).

I think he has a rod instead of a cable. Not sure what year they went to a cable. A stock V-8 rod should work. You could also try a 6cyl. rod. Or convert over to cable (73-87). There's a How-To in the FAQ.

yup - rod - except the rod won't reach the carb (too short) - as mentioned the PO had a piece of wire on there to the pedal linkage and a spring to pull it back (yes creative engineering at it's finest)...

I saw the FAQ post about swapping to the cable set up...hoping I can find another way to do this - since going that route I would have to find a used cable set up and then wait for shipping, then have nice weather and the time to do the swap -

I am really starting to dislike this project - one thing after another.

My 71 GMC has a cable operated throttle, I’m pretty sure it’s factory.

in cases like this in the past i've found a good solution is to extend the rod so it reaches the carb

I got my inline 6 rod connected to a piece of cable and fabricated a "connection" piece to the quadrajet. But real soon I am going to lengthen the rod with a piece of something and then I`ll be gettin rid of that cable all together.
From what ive seen, the cable throttle linkage,factory, started in the 72`s

cable started in 71 due to a recall for bad motor mounts.
Go to NAPA and get some all thread, and make a throttle rod untill you can locate the correct piece.

I fabbed mine out of 3/16" round stock and then had to put a couple bends in it to clear my tv cable bracket I had to fab all to change intakes and head gaskets. Throttle rod kind of looks like a z bar with a hook on the end.

The PO used all thread and I still have it on there. Seems to work ok until I can change mine over to cable.

A piece of all thread and spherical rod ends. Mine have all had an L bend at one end and a threaded barrel at the other, just turn the barrel to lengthen or shorten. So here a new rod will do it, Summit sells a throttle kit:

Not trying to add to your woes but wait til you try to hook up the passing gear on the t-400 Hope you have the old linkage

On a th400 the "kickdown" is electrically controlled, I added a micro switch under the dash, that when i push the accelerator all the way down, contacts the switch and lets the tranny drop a gear....

Thats what i was saying you almost have to make your own because the stock switches are hard to find. I bought a after market from Jegs and it was almost $100 all stainless and cable operated.

I haven't got that far yet - the old setup had a wire going on the trans - but no connection to anywhere else - just a wire with a female spade terminal on it -

You have to wonder at how people get things accomplished...when they do everything half way.

Go to lowes and buy the all thread then go to the hardware area and buy the ends that screw on the thread as in the picture above post. You can get everything at Lowes as long as you don't want Billet.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
