Before I order my 4 link, I have one question.
How come I have never seen a 5 link? That is; 2 parallel bars (one on each side of the frame rail) and a pan hard? I have never seen this installation so Im sure there has to be a reason.
Im kind-of-a novice fabricator and this would be easy for me. I dont feel comfortable with the install of the triangulated 4 link. And the parallel bars looks easier to install but I will have to fab the mounts to the rear end like jlaird did to get it parallel with the ground. Anyway, any comments on the 5 link? Thanks -Marc

O, I was under the assumption that a parallel 4 link was only limited to the type that has the two bars vertical (one on top of another) on he outside part of the frame. But that makes sense.

Yeah that's what a parallel 4 link is, and that's the part where it gets its name, but those have nothing to center the axle from moving side to side so that's where the panhard or watts link comes into play.

Re: Before I order my 4 link, I have one question.
A 5-link is 2 forward loer bars an upper frt wishbone and 2 rearward facing "lift bars" on swinging pivots. super lift capabilities and travel. Does use up quite a bit of chassis space but nice when done right.
We build links to spec if needed. |

You will need to sign up as a vendor before advertising product for sale.

Yes what he said a triangulated with rear lift bars is a 6-link. a wishbone with rear bars is a 5-link

Re: Before I order my 4 link, I have one question.
A lot of the Jeep guys run the Triangulated 4-link because they want max suspension travel up and down for crawling over things without worrying about the track bar binding.
Heck some even run it dual triangulated opposed to the outside bars being parallel. |

Not wanting to hijack the thread but does one ride or handle better than the other - triangulated 4 vs. parallel 4?

With the exception of our S-10 setups... that is the way most of our AirBars are. They are pretty common piece. |

Re: Before I order my 4 link, I have one question.
OK If any of them are done improperly, like anything else it will have less than desireable results. OK certain situations mandate a parallel 4-link, ie most newer trucks to keep gas tank in place, or at least a custom wishbone setup to retain tank. If panhard is long enough and properly mounted it will handle fine. Most consider them for racing use, but work great as long as panhard is longer for less deflection during travel. Triangulateds are a little less cumbersome if room allows. Again it depends on your goals, space, etc.
And yes my web page is in the sig, thanx for finding it. |
