Have any boardmembers swapped in a 5.3?
I'm looking to talk to someone who has completed a 5.3/4L60E swap in a 2WD. Can anybody help me out? Thanks again,
Josh

Re: Have any boardmembers swapped in a 5.3?
Just looking for some advice right now. I have just got all my money set aside, and I am looking to gather parts in preparation for the swap. I have a 250 I-6/SM465 combo now, and am looking forward to not having to shift.
Here are my Q's -Who did your harness and ECU work? Where did you end up putting the ECU? (This one is important to me, I live south of Seattle and all it does is rain...) -Where did you get your motor mounts? -Do you recommend any particular headers? Knowing what you know now, is there anything you would do differently if you had to do it over again?

I would definately reccomend this swap it is awesome to just turn the key and a 72 start up like a new truck. No choking or giving it gas before it starts. GOOD LUCK! |

For $500 you can buy your own copy of HPtuner and do all the tuning yourself (plus 3 other engines) I got some tubular motor mounts for a 73+ and then made adapter plates to mount up to the block. I used some stainless steel camaro headers i found on ebay. |

Do you think that this one would work for the swap? The link to Summit shows a piece of flat stock, but no mounts. Is this a good deal? http://www.painlessperformance.com/ECMProgram/login.php Also, going from a manual pedal setup in my 68 to an automatic, any problems I need to be aware of there, or do I just get rid of the clutch pedal?

Another option you could compare is Speartech. I had "Speartech" build a custom harness to my exact requirements for $850.00. All new hi temp wire with hi temp. wire loom & heat shield where required. Real quality! I put the ECU under the seat, then measured the distance & they made a new harness to my measurements. They also reworked the ECU. It was plug & play, running in 20 minutes after opening the box. (body off the chassis at the time). John at Speartech is willing to answer questions after the sale also. As for Painless, they wont build a custom length harness. I built the motor mounts after positioning the motor where I wanted it, so I can't help ya there. Stock LS1 manifolds from a 98 camaro cost alot less than headers (40.00 to 50.00) & are nice & quiet. Go to LS1tech.com for alot of good info. on the LSX motors.

Re: Have any boardmembers swapped in a 5.3?
The motor mounts at classic performance are the same plate summit has. They just include motormounts with them. I don't know how much they cost but you can get motor mounts at NAPA or Oriellys pretty cheap. So they will work. As for the painless wiring harness with the free ECM flash that is a good deal.

You won't beat
www.wait4meperformance.com for a computer or the tune. I think he only charges around $150 for the computer and the custom tune. The guys name is Jesse and he knows his stuff. Last edited by jkade; 09-24-2008 at 06:35 PM. |
