Heater box question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I found a heater box at the junkyard, and the guy that pullled the the part (a non-A/C box) busted off the flange where there should be a bolt holding it to the firewall, but it's the one that people leave out anyways, so they don't have to drop the inner wheel well. Doeas anyone know if this will work O.K. or should I find another one? I'm wondering about the seal. The seal area is actually O.K.

I have one in great shape you can have for 10 bucks and the shipping if you want.

Not to try and sell you, but there may not be enough pressure there and tightening the other bolts may cause that side of the lip to raise.

I'd roll with it. You probably only use your heater for a month out of the year anyways.

That's true, but I'm getting tired of using a towel as my defroster. Almost every moring it's dewey here.

Changed mine last winter, broke off the same by accident, I used the Black permatex RTV all the way around and have had no problems. Good luck, Mike...

I'd use it, mine has been like that for years and I have never had a problem with it!! P.S. Don't use Latex caulking or silicone to seal it, it causes rust I learned it the hard way!!!! 3M makes a black strip caulking that is the way to go!!!

curious....how does latex or silicone cause rust, when the heater case is plastic??
