thanks for the replies. i've already tested my axles and they seem to be a perfect fit. it's been a while since i looked at it so i'll double check before i tear my front diff apart.
so, it's safe to assume that a 44 "pumpkin" is the same whether it's a front or rear diff, they just got different cut gears depending on application-front or rear.
